Dogtra pathfinder

Looking at getting the dogtra pathfinder, currently use a Garmin astro 220 with DC 4. Is everyone liking the Dogtra? What's everyone's pros and cons from personal use of this system?

Dogtra Pathfinder

I prefer it much more than my Garmin Alpha, of which I seem to have forgotten that I still own. I really like the track recording that I can play back whenever I want. It is like a visual log of all of the hunts you have done while using the Pathfinder. Also seems to be a lot less "loss of signal" messages that I used to commonly get from the Alpha. I don't know if I ever lost signal with my Pathfinder.
The tone feature and the shocking features seem to work well, as my dog responds quickly when I tone her.
The Pathfinder would be perfect, if it had the lighted collar like the TT15 and T5 has. I like the option to light up when necessary.
The Pathfinder can be a bit sluggish to link up, but now what I do is turn on the collar at the house, and within 3-5 minutes I can see that everything has had the necessary time to sync up. Then when I arrive at the hunting spot, I hit the "record" button at the upper right of my phone screen.
Very good satellite view of your hunting area, and unlike Birdseye(Garmin), you don't have to pay a subscription. Just have a smartphone with a large screen, lol.

must the smart phone be linked to a IP or may I use one that's not activated, i.e. can't be used to make phone calls.

Dogtra Pathfinder

Well, I really do not know for sure? My phone is my personal phone and it works great with my type of phone that handles calls as well as surfs using my data plan. I think you could take that phone of yours, and while you're in a wifi zone(like Panera Bread, etc), load your maps, although I'm not certain how to do it, because I don't have that kind of phone, and then when you are boots down on your property, have the map overlay work for you in your phone circumstance. I think I've heard of others say that this can be done. Again I haven't tried, but believe if others say it can be done, then it makes sense that it will work that way for you.
What I will do, is try it like I think you would need it, and get back to you on the matter.

The phone does NOT have to be activated for phone calls. Just connect to WiFi and download the app from Dogtra. If you do this you will have to download the areas you will be hunting if you want the satellite maps from google earth, it’s free as well.
