Elmo, here is a link to a previous thread. Multiple Bocephus hound owners chimed in.

Vic

I’ve started and hunted many of them all had a lot in common!! I’m only giving you my insite on the 5 I had in my pen. And a few I hunted with as pups. They mature a litter late if they are pen kept and muture faster if running lose!! Some tight on track All turn on to be on the tree type tree dogs!! Not over aggressive on Coon but build up their courage along the way and become Coon fighting machine!! All of them seem to have above average mouth or a mouth u can hear. I had one that started at 9 months old that was a first strike and first tree dog!! Also had one that didn’t tree her fist cage Coon until she was 14/months old that was tight on track but won in a RQE hunt in January of this year on her fist hunt and had second strick and first tree and hunted away from the dogs on next drop and was treed with a Coon after the hunt was over. I have a lot of different experience if you would like to talk call me. 225/ 6781247. Hope this help!!

Sleepy, thank you for your insight & sharing your first hand experiences!

I am not actively seeking information, I was just helping Elmo out with a link to an old thread about Bocephus dogs

Nothing wrong with those later starters, I'm more concerned with how they finish once they do get to rolling. I'm Hunting a gyp now that just turned 2 in June & didn't tree her own easy coon in the wild until 15 months old. She doesn't act too bad now for a danged late starting ole blue dog Just needs an owner that will hunt her more often!

Got a Bocephus male, 17 months old. Real tree dog, not saying much on the ground...yet. Real good mouth, but not great mouth. A little slow about getting gone, but is getting better. I think he's going to be an above average dog. Very leggy, lots of speed, caught one on the ground.....so far.
