How many titled hounds

How many titled hounds in your belief can legitimately pass and get the HTX title. short run down on three different nights under three different judges tree a coon by their self in an hour without doin two things wrong.

Is this because some nite champs won't hunt by their self? what other thoughts or reasons do you'll think titled dogs couldn't pass? Just wondering I let my boy (10 year old) do the htx because of the no drama atmosphere, and he loves them. cut the dog and it's all on the dog, he just has to do his job. but we went with a nite champ who may not be able to pass and we got to talking and he was wondering.

I'm surprised that 44% think half of all champions can't tree a coon.

I'm not surprised at all. Kind of surprised that many folks admitted it.

I don't know how dogs aren't better as a whole than what they are with all the knowledge that floats around this site.

Anybody that thinks even top notch highly promoted dogs don't make mistakes haven't hunted much terrain , and wheather conditions have a big factor. No dog is flawless I ain't seen one yet. Some just have more good nights than others it's called consistentsy.

i sure don't doubt that most titled dogs can tree plenty of coon but i just don't feel there is many that can tree them without making plenty of mistakes. BIG difference.

Better yet and on the flip side, seen said dogs themselves (solo) tree coon anywhere in the country. I'd much rather see that test.

Its not the dog fault for the most part. Titles are easier to obtain now than any other time in history of comp hunting due to waning attendance and amount of hunts available. You simply dont need the caliber dog to win hunts nowadays..

I actually believe it's between 75% and 100%! Every titled dog is gonna make a mistake, or have an off night. But for the most part, they typically look pretty good. IMO

From what I've seen dogs are split treeing more than ever, if anything the % of dogs that can tree its own coon has increased. All through the 90's and early 2000's it was very rare to see a dog off to itself, now I see it in every cast.

hunted with a nice walker a while back had won his cast with over 1000 points in the first hour and a guy give big money. talked to the guy that bought him and he was more than unhappy and invited me to go hunting. So I went the dog wouldn't hunt by itself. I think had we cut a mouse with him he'd been gone. half the night later still not hunting ran back to my place grabbed a hound cut and they were gone. And yes he was a nite champ with wins toward grand. I need to come north you guys must have some nice hounds up there.

As a paid handler when I was younger, I personally titled a dog that would not tree a coon alone. A quick cover dog that babbles can be titled in UKC without a ton of effort..

I am willing to bet that 90 + percent of titled dogs can tree own coon and pass HTX. Heck my red heeler can tree coon, not the way I want one too night in and out but he could pass a HTX. I have yet to see a hound that couldn't tree coons alone that someone was carrying to a hunt.

I must have hunted with the only GrNt.’s that couldn’t tree a coon in the country if there are only a few. I’ve not hunted many titled dogs but only 1 out of the 11 or 12 I’ve hunted would tree their own coon. We tried out another 4 that I’m not counting because I only hunted them one night apiece. But they made plenty of trees but couldn’t tree one coon. It’s an interesting topic to listen to everyone discuss no doubt. I’m not familiar with the rules, but the HTX sounds like it would be very difficult for most hounds to pass if they had to do it in different terrain when the leaves are off and they had to have a coon seen.

I consider Sonny a friend, but bro I'd take that bet.

I do most of my huntin alone with one dog. If they can't tree a coon alone and do it right they never get to a hunt.
