Getting started?

Hello,

I am new to hounds and looking for advice. I'm interested in doing bench shows. Are papers required? If so, is there a hardship registration that UKC offers? The dog is a Walker, but sire and dam are not papered. Do I have to be a member of any parent organizations or local clubs in order to show?

Also, what are some good resources for learning and teaching a hound pup how to stack? Any additional information is welcome.

Thank you.

Your dog would be a grade dog. There are no bench shows for grade dogs. You could maybe register him as X-bred, you would be able to hunt him in the UKC night hunts, water races, and field trials, but not bench shows.

your best bet is to find someone in your area that does bench shows and does well and let them show you the ropes. maybe handle a finished dog with them and get a registered dog of your own to start on.
