If this does not work call John Wick and see if he can help.(He takes calls all the time and helps out on training problems.) If all this does not seen to help him call the breeder and demand your money back..
Don't do very much of the cage coon up a tree it gets pups jumping at the tree. You are better off to catch coons to turn loose than showing a bunch of cage coons.
Everything we start does run loose here and it is hands down the best way to start a pup. A coon pen is better than nothing and is a safe environment but just got tracks in an enclosed area for too long is not a good idea either. I would use a coon pen for short periods of time. Most pups today the tree part is not an issue it's the tracking that they need. Letting pups run loose is like puppy kindergarten. They learn to cross fences and water, go hunting, get through and navigate the woods, run actual tracks no matter what it is they run and tree. Running loose gets all the ground work out of the way so that when a pup is old enough to hunt it has an idea of what hunting is and isn't just standing at your feet.
If you have no place to do this than you need to spend a lot of time with the pup out of the pen. Walks along creeks and woods even during the day time just letting them run and explore and some coon turned loose occasionally can be a good start.
