Sambo

I have sit here for several days and read a lot of opinions about our 2017 World Champion Sambo. I don't have any personal knowledge of the hound OR the handler/owners.

But I did watch the play by play. I did read many if not all the comments about hunt location, I did read many comments about populations, so on and so forth. I have seen many folks congratulate this fine hound for treeing the only coon in that final cast, and deservedly so.

But (in my opinion) the one most over looked point of this hound is how he was able to NOT cave in to the pressure of the dog treed at the end of the hunt. He was in the area, but he wasn't treeing on that tree, where NO COON was seen.

This dog not only had the ability to tree the only coon on the cast, but he also had the brains to not get sucked in on a bad situation, where nothing good was going to come of it.

That folks is the difference between a dog that can tree a coon, and a real coon dog. And I'm absolutely certain there were many coondogs at this particular hunt this past weekend. Sometimes seeing our dog not cave into temptation can be more rewarding than just watching it push up an easy coon. I congratulate Mr. X bred World Champion Sambo and your owners/handlers as well. Not so much for treeing the only coon that night, as I do agree with many commenters that having a population where one coon determines the outcome of the majority of the casts, can sometimes have a lot of luck involved. But My congrats comes to you for having the ability to not ONLY tree the only coon out there that night, but to also have the brains to know your competitor was wrong about the tree they chose to tree on, and you were not having any part of that.

By the way, I'm an English man through and through so I'm not jumping on the band wagon of my walker buddies or my Bluetick friends, but it sure was refreshing to see a hound win a world championship the old fashioned way. Not by being in the next zipcode when that last tree was scored, but by having the brains to know that last tree didn't have a coon in it.

May God bless each and every one as we approach the up and coming harvest seasons for the vast majority of our hunters round this nation!! Take Care, and CONGRATS once again.
