What size are the tracts your hunt?

some of my spots are bigger than others. It's all plenty of country to hunt but most farms around here are 40-150 acre blocks. I've got about 100-150 right around here I can hunt but with that said right across the creek from my main spot is a track of land I've tried to get permission to and even tries to lease with no luck. I try to stay off it but we all know how that goes, things happen. With all that said, what size tract of land do you feel comfortable turning out on? My first priority is keeping the dogs safe and my next is keeping the peace with adjoining land owners and lease holders. I hunt to enjoy myself, not to deal with idiots when my dogs set a foot on someone else's 20 acres.

5-15 acre private patches around here mostly. The biggest private parcel I have would be about 100 acres of woods. State land is much bigger. That's why having a dog tone broke works for me.

Still fortunate to have lots great hunting. Have guessing 4000 or 5000 acres of private ground to hunt. And 30,000 acres of government to hunt close by. I had buddy come hunt last winter we hunted 4 nights straight all most all night and never turned loose in same spot twice. I have had a neighbor complain in several years. A few won't give me permission to hunt but let me go get my dog if get on them.

.

I have three tracts that probably average 15,000 acres each.

They don't come cheap. Some I pay money to hunt and one I just have to harvest a few coon. The other hunters welcome me. The snakes, gators and bears don't take kindly to my invasion on their domain.

Good news is Corey and Myself make up about 50% of the coon hunters on that land.

When your on 45,000 acres of land in three different counties and there are no other coonhunters to be found. You have to ask yourself a few questions. They all lead to the sanity of what your doing out there.

I have roughly 2000 acres close to my house. But I hunt a bunch of public ground. One public spot has 66,000 and the other is 5,000. The private ground I hunt, no one has hunted there in about 5 years. So it's some good hunting. But the public ground is where you find out how good your dog is.

Private land I have about 8000 acres right now, the smallest track is 300 acres. We are blessed where I live with enough public bottom land that I could never hunt it all.

I hunt private ranches that average about 5,000 acres each around Menard. I hunt a lot in the Indian Reservations for lion and the largest is the Navajo which is over 17.5 million acres which makes it a little larger than the state of West Virginia. Out here it is not uncommon to put over 30 miles on your dog in a day.
Adios,
Gary

We are truly blessed down here but then we have to deal with rattlesnakes. The Navajo Rez is an 11 hour drive so can't hunt it everyday.
Adios,
Gary
