I currently have a female that is battling coon hound paralisis plus Lymes and Anaplasmosis. It is awful hard to watch a dog that can't move struggle to do everything. Has anybody ever had this and what can I expect? How has it affected there hunting after they recovered?

Good luck with her. Thankfully, we haven't had any of those problems with r dogs, but we did have a lab/terrier cross that hurt her back and was paralyzed for almost 2 months. We had to help her express her urine...didn't go well, she had a couple UTIs and u need to watch for bedsores. We got the egg carton foam.

theres nothing you can do for it,just make her comfortable and carry her out so she can empty out regulary.she should start getting better in a couple of weeks,if you hunter her to early she will relapse.(i have had 3 dogs to have this problem in 60 yrs)

I had one a couple years ago , every morning before work id get him out of his house and feed him soup or chicken broth . Come home in the evening feed him and move his legs around to work his joints and put him back up (all he cld move was his head) for about to weeks. . Then he gradually started to get a little movement back each day . It' took about 2 months for him to get back to normal.

are you sure its not tick paralise. heard there was a new tick disease that will paralyze a dog.

I just had a 2 year old redbone recover from coonhound paralysis. most vets dont have a clue- many have never seen a case of it. I kept him on my heated porch in a plastic kiddie pool full of hay and carried him in and out several times a day. He was unable to walk for over 5+ weeks, and it took over 2 months til I could hunt him.
I had to give him amoxicillin because he got bladder infections from laying there. I went ALLIVET.com. get amoxicillin for fish( no prescription), it comes in 250 and 500 mg capsules. I gave my dog 500mg twice a day.
He is about 90% back to normal and treeing plenty of coons. He does seem to get worn out a little quicker than before.
I hope yours recovers like mine did. Make sure to keep your hound rolled from side to side so its joints dont get to stiff from not moving around, and stretch his legs a few times a day

We had a 4 yr old gyp that got it and was down for 28 days. It's a long process. We started putting her into a sling we had made at day 22 or 23 and she started coming out of it. Only thing about our story is that she was already a Nite Champion when she went down and treed plenty of coons. I can count on one hand how many she has treed since december and she has had ample opportunity to tree coons. I've seen some say it did not effect their ability but it effected ours pretty bad.

Unfortunately she passed away on Sunday do to complication from all she had going on.

Dan Dogs since she had Lymes and Anaplasmosis she very well could have had that new tick disease. She did have all the signs of coon hound paralisis. What are the symptoms of the tick disease?

Sorry to here about your hound. I've seen with lyme disease dogs be extremely tired, not eating, swollen joints and not really hunting good like they usually do. What breed did you have and how old?
