Larry, I have to ask. What did he get scratched for?
I drove from my house to Brazil. I had stopped a couple of times to let him out. After I got to Brazil, it started pouring. It rained until 9:00 pm. I tried to get him out of the box to relieve himself, but he didn't want to come out into the down pour. Our first drop, we cut the dogs on a tractor path into the woods. My male ran to the first tree and started peeing. He was peeing like a race horse and started moaning. The judge said the minute was up and I was scratched.
Apparently, I should have called him because he hadn't stopped moaning yet. 495 miles to be scratched in 1 minute and about 10 seconds. What made matters worse, he took off as i was pleading my case. He struck a track, and the other dogs opened. He ran the track and treed despite the other dogs never honoring him. He had the coon. I stayed with the cast as I always do, and they never treed a coon. The guide made the remark, "boys, we scratched the only coon dog on our cast tonight."
That was my last big hunt. Yep, it is still sore after all of this time.
