Pup shots?

Is it still recommended to give puppy shots at about 4 weeks and then another one two weeks later?

Here's how I do it or up until pups go to new homes

Shots: 5weeks (5way) 7,9,12weeks (7way) most places sell 9way now so I've been using those.

I never give my pups a shot while they are nursing, I wait till about a week after taking them off of their mom to give them their first shot, then again in about 4 weeks if they are still in my kennel

The chart says parvovirus at 5 weeks. They used to say another one two weeks later. Is the second one no longer necessary?

This is the thing about shots, when they will take effect depends on how strong the antibodies they revived from their mother was. Those antibodies will kill the shot if they are still strong enough. Some pups can loose them at 5 or 6 weeks and some not until they are 15 weeks or better. The way I understand it, thats why we give some pups their shots and later they get sick. Because when we gave them their mother antibodies where still protecting them and the shot didn't take affect.

I Thought?

I thought that I had it down on puppy shot timing but nature proved me wrong this year. We had hardly any cold winter weather and the bugs didn't get killed back.My normal shot timing was 8 12 weeks then 6 months but I had two puppies die with parvo after the first shot. I had a friend have the same problem. So I may start giving the first round of shots at 5 to 6 weeks next time.
