This year I killed only 3 coons the whole year and i am almost convinced those are the only 3 on the land i can hunt kidding of course but im in north eastern pennsylvania also we are overrun by deer could that have an affect on the coon population cause i dont barely ever find tracks or scat or does anything even touch bait on my traps anyone else have this trouble

That you hunt Redbones. Lol. No I'm just joking. There will be more. I dont think the deer have that much of a factor in it. I'm sure they compete for a lot of the same food source.

Where about are you at in nepa? Mostly I hunt ground in northeast pa. And there's good ground and bad ground. Most ground I hunt is seasonal. Some ground is great in the rut. and some ground is good all year, and some is very sparse for coon but they seem to only venture there when the other food sources have been exhausted. And the coon population over all is poor when comparing to some areas like Ohio, Arkansas, and such areas.

The best advice I can give you is every weekend you have some free time. Go ask for permission on the land around where you already hunt. The more ground you have the better the results you're going to get. I believe the coons in my area travel around to different areas to find food. There isn't many operating farms in my area anymore. We used to have almost all farms planting crops like corn but in the past 20 or so years most have stopped farming and divided the farm up into parcels.

And I'm not sure if you have the ability to hunt a few miles away from your current hunting spots but that is another way to up your odds of finding better coon populations. And if you put the leg work in, you'll find within a few miles of where you hunt now there will be a small area that will hold coon better than other spots.

You have coons if you got the dog power, I know guys in your area that hunt, matter of fact I have hunted in the Benton area many times, a lot of times from the Washingtonville coon hunters club, If you do your home work you will find there are pockets / areas with a good population as well as areas with thin coons. The game lands up your way is thin but they are there, some of those farms have good populations, I hunted at Washingtonville coonhunters last fall twice , saw 9 coons one nite we treed four singles in two hours, and 11 another nite, granted we only treed two singles in two hours , I did see them setting up around fields, not at the same place either. Remember it doesn't matter what flavor you hunt you must pay your dues and put in the time
