How can we fix the face barking and running a tree in competition?

I drive from California to mississippi to the winter Classic and hunted 2 slams and the Friday and Saturday night hunts and 3 out of 4 casts I was in there was face barking or a fight at the tree.
I'm seriously considering going back to pleasure hunting.
I don't know how these guys can sleep at night knowing how they won.

3 out of 4 Casts? Might need to take a hard look at your own dog.

Face barking

I was hunting a pup and he was Not at any of the trees where the face barking or fighting was going on and I wasn't there thinking I would win I was there to experience the winter classic and have a good time and make some friends. That happened Saturday night had great time made some new friends and was beat by a better dog.
Now when my dog is treeing at home he is looking over his shoulder when another dog comes up behind him.

I agree that there are some face barkers and ill dogs at these events. I dont play the mean dog game. I get one thats like that I leave it at the base of the tree. But some people bring all kinds of crap to these hunts. But I have to ask you, if your hound wasn't at any of the trees where face barking or fighting was going on why would he look over his shoulder now?

Well Mike some of the trees he was there for a short time and at one tree when the cast got to the tree a fight broke out and I seen my dog was hiding in some brush 50 feet from the tree as soon as they pulled the 2 dogs fighting off the tree my dog ran to the tree and started treeing.i ask the Judge what happened and he said these are tree dogs that's going to happen.
I withdrew my dog and left

You said the fighting dog won? Someone might pay a lot of money for a dog that whipped everything at the tree before the cast got there and didn't get scratched lol.

I will write this really slow so you can understand ,no where in my post did I say anything about a mean dog should win. It's your job as a Handler and trainer to make sure that your dog is either completely alone or has enough common sense to stay at a tree with other dogs when treed. People like you are killing the Hunts. If you and your dog are not completely trained then you have no reason to whine or complain. Did you file a formal complaint any of the nights that you felt that you were wronged? If not suck it up buttercup !

My hounds have been in a couple hundred cast the last 5 years or so in $kc. There have only been one cast that I can remember a dog fight that resulted in a scratch. I hunt females that are always alone unless backed. Never had a problem. I've got one now that will let anything tree with her. But if they don't want her on the tree it won't take her long and they will back up and she don't hold grudges. That's what I can't stand is one that holds a grudge. I just don't see mean dogs a problem at the compitition hunts. Atleast not in the regestry I hunt in.
