That's where I am.
Rather than getting technical about breaking down and parsing different ability factors, I am picking my dog prospects on what I call coon treeing ability.
In other words, the ones that end up under a coon the most often with the least stupid in between.
Some years ago, I had two young dogs.
One was about as consistent about getting coons treed with no trash problemsand not many mistakes as any pup I have ever had.
The other was trashy and wild and didn't tree right on a lot of trees, but had what I call "wow factor."
On given nights, when it suited her,she could do things that would make your jaw drop.
Take a track away from dogs. Fall treed with a coon when others were struggling.
But she also had more holes than swiss cheese.
I sold the consistent, easy one so I could concentrate on the bronc, and end up with me a world beater.
Well, she never did make a consistent coon treer.
Maybe because I wasn't a good enough trainer.
The one I sold got better and better and made a tremendous hound.
The other one could outrun him, etc.
But he put the fur on the limb.
I won't make that mistake again.
