Mine came with a black lanyard with a snap on it. I clip it to my bibs. I also have a dayglow orange cover that also has a lanyard which I also attach to my bibs. Its a little aggravating to remove but I haven't lost it and the mess I often get in will pull stuff off of you.

I got a protective cover that has a lanyard from Bruce Conkey. I think it's called the "Gizmo". It works great. I have dropped it several times and the Alpha suffered zero damage. I have had it since 2014 Summer Oaks and just the other day realized that there is a molded in little depression on the side so you don't have to take the Alpha out of the Gizmo to turn it on and off. One thing I would suggest...whether or not you get a protective cover or just tie it from a string, do yourself a favor and get some reflective tape on the device so you can find it at night easily if you ever do drop it. I dropped mine one night, not knowing where and it took me several days and many hours I cant get back to find it. Reflective tape would have made it so easy...I actually walked past it several times.

check these out. if you dont like a case on it and its easy on/off. only issue i had with gizmo was that quick connects would not work with it.
