Can't get over trackers in hunts

I haven't hunted in a Nite hunt in close to 10 years and am starting to get back into it. I just can't get over the fact that you can use these new GPS trackers to watch your dog during a hunt. What's the reasoning behind allowing it?

Why not? What would be the reasoning to not use it? Times have changed, technology has improved. Its a great tool.

Mainly cause your average dog owner needs it. Claim it's easier to see if there's a road neerby. Fact is people are lazier today and any little advantage they want it .

I just don't see how allowing computer/GPS assistance helps anyone during the actual hunt. Especially knowing the exact moment the dog looks up and you get a beep saying it's treed. I guess I'm just not a big fan of change period lol but the only benefit I can see is that you should never have to withdraw because you can't find your dog.

People lose more casts because they are looking at them than they do win them

Actually the rules state that the sound must be muted and you cannot tree your dog by looking at your GPS if the judge doesn't hear your dog you will only get your dog minused and you cannot even have it on if it has shocking or toning abilities.i like being able to use it safety matters to me when my dog is loose especially if I'm hunting strange land and at times you do draw a dog that sounds exactly like your dog and there's nothing wrong with knowing for sure everyone is calling the right dog.

My opinion, it should only be used during a timeout.

Ahh but that used to be part of being a good handler, knowing your dog good enough that you aren't going to mistake it. I agree also that it should be timeouts only. And thanks for the clarification about the sound, I just glanced at the rules so I'm still not 100% on them.

It's not necessarily for me to know my dog but more to keep someone else from trying to claim my dog as theirs this happens more than you might think.

It helps keep dogs alive. Likely a lot of dogs that wouldn't be hunted in the hunts without the security of knowing where they're at at all times.

Part of being a good handler is knowing your dog.i think of they let you use it than they should make a remote box that the judge uses and the handler doesn't call anything. Then its on the dog.

They aren't going away. I've been in several casts, in 3 kennel clubs, and never had a problem because of them. Personally if I am hunting one good enough to be in a cast, he's valuable enough I'm not turning him loose with out my Garmin on.

I don't mind the rule myself.. I've seen Guys attempt to call their dog off Of a garmin, those handlers usually ended up in the truck with 400- in a short order of time lol

If you tree your dog every time that tracker says he's treed, I think you're going to be in trouble early.

Some people are born not knowing everything. That's why they ask.
