I hunt Blue's, always have probably always will. I have had some of all the breeds etc but the blues have always been my main breed. There's good & bad in all of them. A lot of it depends on the trainer & of course genetics. I think the blues as a breed have just stayed closer to their original lines with colder noses etc & hasn't been tweaked as much as the other breeds for the comp hunts in my opinion.
The 2 males I have right now are totally different in styles & breeding but both are excellent hounds. 1 weighs 110 lbs, huge bawl mouth, super cold nose, takes whatever track he hits first & sticks with it.
The other weighs 72 lbs, bawl mouth, good nose, pushes track super fast etc.
The big one takes longer on track cause he sticks his nose in every step of the track. The smaller one can run with its head up.
During a drought like we had last summer that ole big cold nose could get a track started when others couldn't.
Also for some reason I think Bluetick people as a whole are more into pleasure hunting. I've hunted with a bunch of us dogs that were excellent but never comp hunted.
