Fall is here

Well all of the major competition hunts are over now and everyone's coon season is about to open. Nobody "got er dun" this year but a few came awfully close. I guess that all of the comp hunters will now take a much deserved rest and do a little pleasure hunting. 'Tis the season for fun and pup training. I hope that everyone has a nice young prospect to get ready for next year.

To some it is all about the winning but to others it is all about the fun. My granddaddy once told me that the journey meant more than the destination. I didn't really understand what he was talking about when I was younger but now that I am older, it makes sense. I think that is why I like to start and hunt pups.

Hutch, I think he's talking about this:

For the best effects, crank your amp up to 11, turn the lights down low, turn on the smoke machine, and tell grandma to get out of the house.

uh1, 2, 3, 4!

Uh-uh-uh.
uh^uh-uh.
uh-uh-uh.
uh^uh^uha, Wheew^weeee!

(repeat)

"Well...... I don't know where they come from but they sure do come. I hope they comin' for me.

............"

Doc, I was talking about the "real" hunts. If only a few people even know about a hunt, is it really a "big" hunt? Just because someone has a lot of money and wants to give it away, does that make it a "big" hunt? I mean, can you "buy" a big hunt? I mean you are even calling it a "one hit wonder" hunt.

I sure have been having a lot of fun this week with Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett. So much that I am going to have to find me some more bullets somewhere today.

I went to Marshall, Il Fri night. First we had a huge supper at the coon club. Then we went hunting in a giant beautiful creek bottom. There were 11 people and 6 Redbones. We Hunted off of 3 side by sides. I think that my longest walk was 100 yds. We treed 9 single coons, 2 den trees, 1 slick tree and of course 1 possum. And this was hunting from 8 until 11:30. At the end we went back to the club for coffee and pie. And then the next morning Jeff's wife fixed us a huge breakfast. It was one of those hunts that you remember forever. Thanks Jeff, Darren and Dean for putting this hunt together and inviting me.

Good times with good friends. A big Thanks to Jeff Murphy for putting this on. The fellowship, food, dogs, hunting and transportation were awesome. Glad you made the trip up Richard.
We also got to hunt with a blast from the past Harry Oumedian. Thanks for traveling down Harry.

Last night was sure a beautiful night in Eastern Tennessee. All of the rain and wind finally put out the fires and cleaned the air. It was a crisp clear bright night. I climbed 600 yds to the top of a big tall ridge and sat for 30 min all by myself just enjoying nature's beauty and listening to my dogs work an old bad track that they finally treed in a big den. Every star in the sky was shining bright down on on me. Track driving competition tree dogs are nice but an old timey cold nose bawl mouth coon hound is a thing of beauty. I guess that it is just that time of year.

My first hound was bawl mouthed treed dog and I have days I'd still like to hear him. Glad all is well there. I'm traveling through Wyoming now it's 15° and snowing. Yay
