Bark Collar

What is the best, affordable bark collar right now? I have spent money on petsafe, Sportdog, and Garmin and none have lasted or work correctly.

The Garmin bark limiter was just shy of $100 and would not shock my dogs when they would bark, but would shock them standing in the pen.

About how long will it hold charge? and Does it have settings you change or is it automatic for the intensity based on the dogs barking?

SportDOG Rechargeable Bark Control Collar

I have had three of them for right at two years and not one issue. I have tried just about everyone of them and this is the only one that has help up and good batttery life, plus you can recharge it! Like the different ways you can adjsut to your hounds temperment and pups, they learns without frying them!

YS500 works for me, even the most stubborn hound I havent had to turn it up past 4. Most hounds on level 2.

It is $85.

I have also used a little green one made by Guardian, I think they are $40 and work fine.

Sportdog has better reviews on Ebay... But I have heard a lot of people use the Dogtra. Can anyone tell me the battery life on each?

My Dogs aren't stubborn about it. They usually may test it once and that's it but I couldn't handle the Garmin shocking when they were just walking around!

the dogtra ys500 I have only needs charged every 2 or 3 weeks, but if a hound barks a lot I can see it needing charged sooner.

One of my hunting buddies uses the sport dog and it works fine too. It is a much smaller/ lighter collar, and as I understand it, there are no settings, It automatically adjusts to a higher shock level as needed.

Collar

Okay I was just on the phone with Conkeys ordering a couple things and I inquired about the Pro 70 training system. It has a built in Bark limiter. Has anyone had any issues with this shocking dogs in the kennel when not barking. I have got the worst kennel hound i have ever seen. Constantly bark, pace, i swear he even rolls in his own crap. Never seen anything like it before. But has been runnin and treeing coon since 8 months old, by himself. The young man I talked to said he hasn't heard of it. But before I order it I wanna make sure. I need a new training unit and just bought my 320 a few months ago.

I have a idiot here to. The dogra he laughed at. I put 2 on him wide open. More they'd shock. The more he liked it. I calmed his crap down with the alpha. Can't nothing put up with that heat. Then I got a couple of the new garmin delux bark collars. Best I've had in a wgile. The dogra would not last over a yr here and that's ridiculous.

See, The Garmin Deluxe Bark Collars I have either don't work at all or Shock when the hound isn't barking.
Had a female that's mouth was basically ruined due to the Garmin Collar. Every time it would shock her she would squall in pain and it would continue to shock her. She was running into the dog house, kennels, falling over and rolling. It was terrible. Once I figured out it was not her causing it to shock her it was too late! Couldn't hear her at 100 yards away. For that reason they are crap in my opinion.

.

Here is my opinion and I try to stay out of these discussions unless asked directly on my opinion. I am familiar with most of these collars and when I read these post it just proves to me that there is something for everyone.

The most important thing when talking about a bark collar is sometimes not what model but when it was made. I have seen all these companies go through a good period and a bad period. I speak from the experience as when things are not going good or some electronic component is bad. I get calls.

Several people recommended the YS 500. First it has been discontinued for 6 months. Several on the internet for sale but they are there because they didn't sell or overstocked. Second at one time I thought it was the best shock collar made and I have said that on here several times. The last year of manufacture I feel the quality of it went down. Now they have a YS 600 and it is good. You don't have to worry about it working as it will. It comes with long prongs and I am afraid most people are going to damage their dogs necks with those prongs. If you get one please do your dog justice and adjust or remove the collar as recommended.

Garmin Bark Collar. When the first came out a few years ago they had some issues. Garmin has worked on those issues and they perform pretty well now.

I had a car once that I didn't like but it was a 1966 model. I just don't think it is fair to come on here and talk down about a specific brand without some more information like how old it is and yes you probably had a problem but yes it probably has been fixed by now.

I have seen about every electronic device made have a weak period in its life. Good companies solve those problems and things do improve. Sometimes with out advertisement.

I don't mean to down the product. All my other Garmin product are absolutely great!! These collars we bought less than a year ago. Worked great the first couple months.

It is possible I got two defective collars? Just disappointing spending $200 to ruin a dogs mouth.

I also had two of them that would shock dogs who were doing nothing wrong. Bought at different times from different places. I said so on this forum and the Garmin fanboys said i was crazy they're great.

Lol. I am a fan of Garmin, Just not the Bark Collars! Won't recommend them or buy them again. But if any of the fanboys need one I'll sell mine at a good price!!

The Pro 70 has a built in bark collar. I am not a fan of those for one reason. If that dog is kenneled with another dog your just asking for that collar to get chewed up. Thats a $150 collar chewed up when you can buy a bark collar for a lot less. Garmin did build bark control into the Pro Trashbreaker and Pro 70 and a few other systems. I have never had one returned for not working as a bark collar but then again I am not sure how many use them for that purpose.
