Unusual Encounter

Last Friday morning I was roading my blues in the Navajo Reservation for lions when I spotted a mature black bear cross the road in front of me about 75 yards away. I kept moving toward where I had seen the bear and wanted to make sure that my dogs would not give chase as they are supposed to be broke. After less than a minute, a big mature boar rolled off a steep bank and was headed toward my Luke dog that was about 15 steps in front of my truck. When the bear realized that there was a pickup right behind the dog, it changed directions and disappeared into the timber to the right of the road going in the same direction as the first bear. I could be wrong but I feel like the two bears were rutting and the male was attempting to run the dog out of the area. A rancher buddy of mine from NM that hunts with me and is familiar with the Rez thinks that the bear saw the dog as an easy meal. There are many ferel and loose running dogs in the reservation. What do you think????
Adios,
Gary

P. S. My dogs did not take the bait and proved that they indeed are broke off bears.

That's certainly an odd situation, but highly unlikely that a female would still be coming into season at this point in the year. Ma b just a boar trying to run the other fella out of his turf and when saw the dogs motion got caught up in the moment. But with wild critters u never can tell.
