I have a hound that when you take him out of the kennel to go hunting on the way to the truck he has a seisure.I guess he gets so excited that he is going hunting that something trigger's this.He goes about 2-3 mins & then he trys to compose himself then he jumps in the box.He is my best dog. I talked to my vet & he said it happens but never really offered me any advice.My ? is have any of you ever seen this?I will say again he does'nt have them any other time other than when I' am taking him from the kennel to the truck.

there is no cure that i've heard of many vets will put the dog on phenobarbital but its no cure just makes seizures less intense and your dog doped up ! i have a walker almost 14 that when he was 4 had seizures after a 7 way vaccine on and off over a month period off course the vet denied the vaccine caused it !

I had one the same way. But after checking more closely i found she was having them during the day also. First it was just once in awhile then over several monthe they became more frequent to the point it was every day. In this time i took her to two different vets to see if there was anything that could be done. After close to $1000 dollars on meds and vet bills they discovered she had injured her spine someway. I finally had to put her down because they became so intensa and so often i could'nt stand to see her suffer any longer. This may not be the case for your dog just thought it might give you some input on maybe where to have him checked. Hope it helps and good luck.

He does'nt have them anytime but as described.He did'nt start having them until about 8 months ago he is 5 now .the only thing I can recall that was different was I used flea & tick collars that year,no traumatic injury, he is healthy as a horse.It breaks my heart when he has one , I was thinking yesterday after he had one that I might not ever take him again , but that would not be fair to him becausev he absolutely loves it & is probably as good as there is at what he does.

Steven, the ol English dog Timber we hunted had seizures while hunting. They got worse as he got older. He had a bad one hunting with T.C and Tony Burgamy one night and we retired him. Timber was treated by Dr. Groover and Dr. Timmerman and they said not much they can do for them. We also consulted with UGA Vet School and they agreed. I wish I had more to offer you. I sure know how hard it is to find a good one that you enjoy.

I would try feeding feed with no corn or grain could be sugar worth a try.

Try giving him some nutracal or a spoon of caro syrup 5 minutes before you load him.

I just bought my grandma some coconut oil for brain health she is 89 & starting to slip a little. While reading about old folks and the benefits for brain health I also came across some info where people are seeing good results for those suffering from seizures and epilepsy. There is alot of research on the web for high ketonic diets, high in fats and low in carbs and coconut oil is a key in many of these studies.
Something to try and if it doesn't work it won't hurt anything your dog will have a nice shiny coat.

Thanks for all the input, I appreciate it.

Sunday I had to repair two kennel panels so I loaded up some dogs in my box, I just turned him out of his kennel, he ran to the gate & was having a fit to get loaded , he thought everybody else was going hunting but him .So I picked him up put him in the box no siezure.I'm going to try this again the next time I go hunting & see what happens.

I go they same thing with my hound , I now started exercise ing my hound the day I plan on hunting that nite to work off her excess energy , so far it's working for me .

I'm not sure this has been said, but it is connected to a dogs sugar level. There are things you can give a dog that does help, but help is all it does. I would not recommend a dog like that be used for breeding. It is hereditary.

He has a few litters on the ground & none of his pups have ever had one , his pups have won at very high levels , I keep up with them.I seriously believe his are from when he gets so excited when he's going hunting something in his body overloads causing this to happen, I have tried the sugar thing before with him it does not work .
