couldnt ask for better day.

had to get rolling by 4am today and drove buddy hour west to unit he has cow elk tag in. he had hunting in mind but was mainly a scouting trip and looking for places to hunt beings all private ground. toured some big wild country and seen some deer and happened upon single set of elk tracks on sand road. nothing fresh and nothing seen on hoof but was showed some crop damage in small fields and possible fence line damage. still fun and hes going to have big challenge ahead if lucky enough to fill.

love all hunting but by 6am i was already thinking gotta get home and dump dogs after dark. hit the woods with trix, sky, and spayed dog. sky and spayed dog got track going that sounded like crap then got to rolling with them ground catching. they did good job in deep water. trix ended up popping single up over half mile from where their track ended. dumped again with all three dogs putting litter up. bout dead tired but tried one more drop where dogs picked around then slammed treed. drove real close to that one and dogs would quit treeing then start hammering. sure enough leaner den tree dogs were climbing up and down. said bad doggies in my own special way and headed in. hate quitting when crap like that happens but crap like that irritates me. would rather have absolutely for sure slick tree rather than hit hard on den then climb up and down the tree shutting up. UGH!!! dumb dogs anyway. bet wont happen in near future though and tomorrow night will end on good note. LOL.

today while looking for elk we hit the biggest town around for a burger. laugh all you want, not far away is minowa, nebraska. population 1.

my favorite run of night with litter up where dogs ran together.

trix and sky "fighting" over sweet spot of tree. spayed dog was at edge of canopy treeing just spinning in circles on back legs while treeing. would call her over but she would hardly tree till back 20ft. goofy worthless dog but she had coons pinpointed where they were, not where went up.

wasnt home 30 seconds and trix was dead to the world. older than dirt but still has on/off switch that goes on when tracking collar does.

Thanks Matt It's good to know that we still have part of this great country that's not covered in asphalt.
