I'm going to brag on a special redbone a little...
When I look around the past two years I see more and more redbones breaking out and reaching milestones and goals in competition circles than it seems has been the case for many years. In the past two years we have had 2 redbones make PKC Gold Champion (10k in winnings) I think only 3 have ever done it so that's a mile stone. We have had several nice redbones put together long strings of wins across many states and under different registries hunts and many others have captured big wins in various world championships and come very close to winning it all a few times. As I look around I can't help but think...as a breed, we are moving forward and gaining ground on the other breeds that have dominated the bigger hunts for decades. I also see new people coming into the breed and giving redbones a try...people who have always hunted other breeds. This is key to increasing the breeds popularity and growing our base of breeders, trainers, owners and handlers.
I have enjoyed some success with my own dogs as well over the past few years since I started competing again. Mostly with my females. As most of you know I like to concentrate more on females because as a breeder I feel like it has been an often overlooked area in many breeding programs in the past.
But I have a male here that I am partners on with Danny Biggert who really is a unique and special redbone. I know there are a lot of good winning redbones out there these days...but Mac is very special to me. Not only because of how he is bred...but because of what he has done in competition in such a short amount of time. My friends all know I have worked 2nd shift for years...so unless I take vacation days...I can usually only compete one night a week in a competition hunt...Saturday. So, I try to keep my dogs tuned up through the week and make every hunt I go to count because I almost never get to hunt in Friday night hunts or during the week in week night pkc hunts.
The male dog I am so proud of and that I am talking about is Gr.Nt.Ch.-PKC Ch.-2015 AKC Ladies World Champion- 2015 ACHA World Champion Redbone-2016 PKC Redbone Days Champion- 2016 AKC World Champion Redbone Moonlight Outlaw Mac.
He is special to me for lots of reasons but his breeding is one of the first that people comment on. He is directly out of semen frozen in 1993 from Dual Grand Champion Outlaw Billy The Kid who was just inducted into the American Redbone Association Hall of Fame x Gr.Nt.Ch. Ky Moonlight Kate who is the last direct daughter of Gr.Nt.Ch. Moonlight Kate x Gr.Nt.Ch. Montana Red Mountain Ranger (both of which are also Outlaw bred) So his breeding is important to me because it all goes back to where I started in redbones in 1990.
And then there is his ability to tree coons and win in competition. To some, breeding doesn't matter if the dog can't tree coons consistently and prove it can do it better than those it's hunted against...well here is Mac's record in the short time since I partnered on him with Danny....
In may of 2015 I picked Mac up in Michigan after hunting with him for the first time. I Brought him home and entered him in a UKC Nite hunt the next night and won the hunt...a week later I put him in a UKC RQE and he won first place with over 600+. Mac made Grand Nite quickly and since may of 2015 he has been entered in 29 casts at hunts in 8 states in 4 different registries and has accumulated 22 cast wins. I will list out some of these below

2016 PKC Black and Tan days $1000 added purse final four split
2016 AKC world Champion Redbone and top 20 finisher
This is just some of the bigger hunts Mac has won in the last year... I am pretty proud of him and just wanted to brag on him a little and say that I really believe the breed is moving in the right direction with so many others stacking up wins as well.
