Dang Dawgs!

The ones I like most I tend to get too attached. Rain is my middle son's dog, but since he has a girl friend, job, and goes to college, I get to hunt her.

In February, I bred her. She had always been the perfect picture of health. Ten days after breeding her, she developed a lump on her neck. It turns out the vet thinks it is an abscess caused by something she ran into her neck such as sawgrass. He puts her on antibiotics. Her neck and muzzle swell up terribly. After some success the swelling goes down except at the abscess. She is on the antibiotics until April 21st. She has puppies, and the vet says stop the antibiotics. Four days later she can not even pick her head up. Of course it is midnight on Sunday, so it is off to the emergency clinic. She is dehydrated and has a fever of 105.7. She goes back on antibiotics. The pups were still nursing and vet said it was o.k. Problem due to fever milk production stops and within hours, we lose 3 pups. I become 24 hour milk nurse. World's hardest job next to being a dad.

Finally, last week the vet says the last thing to do is surgery. Today the dang dawg is in surgery. My education tells me everything should be fine. After the last couple of months of bad luck, it is hard to shake off uncomfortable thoughts.

These dang dawgs!!!!!!!!!

Larry

One can judge the character of a man by the way he treats his wife, children and animals! With that being said- no doubt in my mind that you have excellent "character"! We need more men like you for " role" models for today's youth and adults. Nuff said! Dave

I was thinking just the other day that it seems these dogs sure get hurt and sick easily. I was wondering if I even wanted to take them to the woods again.
but I did and I will keep on and pay the vet bills. I thank God for the blessing of the dogs and the vet and my means to do it.
I hope your dog gets healthy.

Thanks guys.

Heard back from the vet. Surgery lasted over 2 hours. Vet said it was much more complicated than suspected. I can pick her up after 5:00 pm. She does have a drain tube, and will have to Friday. They are sending the abscess out for testing.

Hobo I kidded ya about your nice white kennels. Wouldn't mind it now. I am not too excited on bringing her back to my 25 years old and dirty kennels.

Its our "sons' dang dawgs. We have over $800 in vet bills for r son's lab/terrier because she ran into a tree in a blizzard coming home from chasing deer. She was paralyzed in her backend for months. She's much better now, but will probably never be 100%.
Hope ur dog makes a full recovery and good luck with ur pups.

Dang Dogs Cont'd

Well, Rain finally for her stitches out and the cone collar off. We watched her carefully for over 3 hours. She never bothered the surgery site (her neck under her jaw).

My wife and I had put dinner off and the boys were all gone for the evening. So we made short < 1 hour to Cracker Barrel.

We got home and looked out to see Rain scratching her neck!!!!!!

Dang dogs neck was raw and bleeding!!! At least she hadn't ripped the sutured area. Needless to say boy was I pissed!

Rain is now wearing the cone collar again, and I am reapplying powdered antibiotic!

All I can say is Dang Dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dogs are dogs. They're like kids that never go up. Trust me, you can not count on them to guard your food.
