Can you name just "ONE!!!" Please!!

Who is The single best redbone you have ever been to the woods with? And if you would, state why or what it was/is that sets them apart from the rest. Thanks in advance.

Delcamps Harry.
As a young dog he was as close to perfect as anything ive seen.
We hunted him 5-6 nites a week and sometimes he would go the entire week and tree a coon everytime we put him down and do it quick.
He had a great mouth and a big motor.

Getahead LilRed was crossbred but looked like a redbone and was single registered as such.
Bellar says she was the best coondog he ever saw and would give 100k for another.
We searched for 2 years after her death and never found one even in the same ballpark as her.

Nighty Nite Moonlight Kate. She had a ton of drive, got her mouth open quick and was accurate.

Yellow River Red.

Overall balance of the hound. His ability to put a coon at the end of most any track and ahead of most other hounds.

Was killed on the road before his prime. Otherwise, I think he could very possibly have impacted the breed significantly. One of his direct sons did for sure.

best

Best comp dog? best pleasure dog? best has a lot of different meanings in today's world. I have hunted one nite with a lot of dogs others claim to be the best, saw some good , saw some bad. To determine the best, in my book would require hunting every nite for months until that could be decided. The best coon treeing dog I ever followed was a old short tailed redbone by the name of Otis, poor mouth, not good to look at, didn't throw dirt in your face when he left, having said the bad , the good- cut him and get him off a tree, over 400 trees with only one slick in a two year period, my old huntin buddy hated him, said he would kill him if it was his dog. I did get 3 first place wins with him in hunts, a lot of times when pleasure hunting, he treed and it would be a two or three hour walk one way to get to him, absolutely would not ever come back, our coon are thin and you had to find him with the tracker over 80% of the time, I never bred him due to his mouth, not a dog to train pups with, not mean at all just went his own way .oh, what it was like to be young then.

Best on which night?

Ive hunted with a lot of "Big named" dogs in our breed. Some several times. Ive been impressed some nights and un impressed another from the same dogs. Over 15 years of comp hunting still couldnt just pick 1 and say it was the best ive been to the woods with. None are perfect but some have perfect nights. Like Bill said unless you hunted with all the dogs out there for months at a time how would anyone really know.

I hate it when people use this question as a platform to promote their own dogs and kennel so that's not my intention when I say without a doubt the best I've hunted with is Gr Nt Ch Crooked River Red Turkey Htx. He's not only the best redbone, but the best coondog of any breed I've been to the woods with. His ability to tree more coons per acre is like no other. I sometimes think he counts coons as he is running a track, because after he finishes a track and we leave that tree, he will often run straight to another tree and have another coon. I'm lucky to own him and consider him my once in a lifetime dog.

The answer is NO! I can't name just ONE! haha

Cali: Fast , Independent, Accurate, Super Smart, Great Disposition

Timber Jack: Balanced, Meat Dog, Fast, big mouth on track, never quit. Night after night coondog that was a real pleasure to hunt with. The harder you hunted him the better he got.

Brandy II: Sneaky Fast, Independent, Accurate, Smart, Coon Treeing Machine.

I'd take 3 more just like them.

I'll be 48 in a couple months. That marks 30 years of following Redbones. Wow how time fly's.
Since reading this post, I've pondered this question the last couple days. Bill is correct: "To determine the best", in my book would require hunting every nite for months until the best could be decided.
I've gotten to know some well known Reds, I've hunted just 1 night with some also. The problem with really getting to know a dog, is they all have holes in them.
A few dogs come to mind that really stand out as real good ones.
I've tried and so far, I can't come up with the "1" best. But thank you for causing me think about this.
No. I can't.

So let me frame the same question in a different way to those who can't come up with the one best dog they have hunted with.

If you guys had to bet your life on treeing one coon in mid-winter on a full moon night and temps in the teens or lower with some snow on the ground what dog that you have owned or hunted with would you want on the end of your lead?

Picture taken at 2 years of age on a night exactly as you described. The dog on the other side of the tree was his daddy Timber Jack with the W brand on his leg. Moon was the best cold nosed track dog I have hunted with in the Redbone Breed and he shined on those cold Winter nights.

full moon ,snow

Chris, full moon, snow on the ground , in the teens, add some wind and I would have to agree with jdgher but I would go with Bubba's great grand daddy "Red Sage" and I would be very confident on that dog being able to pull it off. Best I ever followed and I hunted with him a bunch.

If I had to tree a coon in 15 minutes in strange territory or start losing fingers,I'd pick grntch Big Red.That dog made quite a few people start coonhunting because he made it look so easy.He was a dog you could count on any day of the year to tree a coon.He was also a stylish, loud, fast locating, accurate tree dog, fast one way track dog,and independent on track and tree.He absolutely would not leave a tree .The only thing I would have changed about him was I would have liked him to open his mouth on track alittle quicker. However when he opened on track he would get treed.Just a real nice dog for the most part.

Well...

Given the original question on the one night I had the pleasure to see him go GrNtCh Timber Knockin Tex. Just super balanced all the way around. That being said if Allen is saying Red. Then Allen would be the one to know. Unfortunately one I didn't get to see go but did see his siblings NtGrNtCh Music and GrNtCh Rebel go.
Now in the second question hands down Music or as me and Darin called her Kitty. She was Bubba's full sister. She was insane on the rough nights. The worse the weather was the better she was. She got her 1st to make NtCh in just 5 hunts on a night where there was 4 inches of snow on the ground and the temps were in the 20's. All over cast seen one coon at most with a hound that made NtCh real quickly around that time minusing out. One of several. Kitty showed us 4 different trees with coon on the outside and 5 coon were seen. The first one on the outside was 3 miles from where we dropped her according to the garmin on the hound following her. One she treed not 100 yards from us too.
