Mark, you left off North Carolina on the states Mac got wins in
It seems to me the guys who want to critisize others on their wins are the ones who dont have many.
You will not see many dogs on the performance point lists getting the points it takes to rise on that list by hunting small hunts in their back yard because those type of hunts only award a fraction of a point. Big hunts to me are hunts that bring out the better competition. In UKC that would be hunts that draw several casts of Gr.Nt.Ch. dogs...in PKC it would be hunts that draw silver, gold and platinum champions.
Heck, I live right smack in the middle of some of the toughest competition in the country so even my backyard hunts are some of the toughest to win.
I got Bellar 25 mins away, I got Bryan Whitted 20 mins away and even at small pkc hunts here you will have about half the dogs there with 4k of money wins under their belt so its never a walk in the park in my backyard hunts.
The only confusion about who and what lines are winning is created by critics who want to create doubt and try to discredit winners by acting like their wins are not as good as other wins for this reason or that. Its bad for the breed and shouldnt be happening.
We should celebrate every redbone win and we should especially recognize and give praise to the rather small group of redbones each year that beat the odds and rack up multiple wins across many states at different times during the year....because these dogs have proven themselves to be some of our best competition dogs that are representing the breed well. Why would be ever want to diminish what they have done...how is that helpful to the breed?
Dogs that win one bigger hunt may have gotten lucky...
Dogs that win month after month in different states at bigger hunts....thats more than luck...
Lists are an impartial measuring tool that is generated by UKC and other registries. They are not based on opinion...(thank God)....they are based on facts and hard data. They should be looked at as a tool, a way to measure certain things that are important from a dog breeder or buyers stand point.
The results should not be doubted or diminished because that usually comes from people who dont have a dog on the list and are trying to make excuses as to why thats the case.
One of the best ways to use these lists are to watch for recurring patterns. The same dogs or lines of dogs winning over and over again...consistently rising on the lists either in performance points or in titled pups. This is all good stuff guys. I remember a time when people didnt have this information and you had to look at still pics in a magazine and listen to opinions from people when researching dogs....and opinions are not all that reliable.
If anyone wants to have their dog on a list...they need to get out there and earn their spot like everyone else who is on it. It changes almost every month and its the closest thing besides purina points that ukc offers up as a race.
Heck I wish they would create more lists that would offer measurments in other metrics that would be useful to breeders and buyers of puppies.
I also wish they would turn the performance points system into a yearly race that culminates with a two night, double round each night elimination hunt at the end of the year or in the spring of the year with a big hunt where the top ten dogs of each breed compete against each other for a prestigous title and some awards....
That would make it a true race throughout the year with nice rewards for the most consistent winning dogs at the end of it!
What do you think Allen and Corey?
