Treeing Any?

Been hunting some since the running season opened March first. The past four nights of hunting I have been to 35 trees with coon in them. Sure glad to see a few coon left. Jerrold Parker, Trey Melton and Bob Sherborn was up. Heath Gatlin from Texas dropped by for a short hunt. Jerry Crain managed to break away from his farming for a hunt. Bebee brought Bo up to give Irene some training and last night Steve had Penny on her A game.

Dennis,

Your are doing the breed disservice if you don't haul those blue haired hounds to the big dance type events that are capable of putting up those kind of numbers!

Not only could you walk away with some nice trophy's, you could walk away with a pocket chalk full of cash if you enter up in those elimination style events.

My culls are lucky to stumble across just a couple sick ones over the course of a night. I could not begin to imagine multiple nights of 8 plus coon, & that's even hitting it a lick for most of the night.

Keep ole blue in that timber. I will be watching for your name in the winners circle!

Take care & good hunting,
Vic

The purina national is coming up and thinking about sending in my entry. The night we treed 13 Jerrold had brought Bo down to meet Bob Sherborn who bought him. I like Bo alot. He has proven he can win. Those Okies went home at 2. It was getting light in the east when Parker said Uncle. It's difficult to leave the farm, that's my excuse. I haven't been to a hunt since last June.

Bebee and I left out around 8 to give the hounds some exercise. I sure like the Bo dog of Richards. Treed seven trees all had a coon in them. Even though on the way to the last tree Richard was betting it would be slick but he lost the wager. We headed in before midnight. Hunts like tonight is why I prefer a good pleasure hunt . We were getting treed then moving to new woods.

A matter of fact I have. I find rather funny people don't believe Dennis that he tree's several coon a night. Well before you run your mouth why don't ya load your best & call Dennis or myself for a hunt. We both have excellent hunting but I will admit Dennis has way better dogs than I have. There was one night this winter Dennis came up for a hunt & we treed 26 singles & saw I believe 56 coon. So in my part of the country you don't have to have a barn burner just a COON DOG. I'm still looking for either one but I'm not having much luck.

Cindy is as nice of a hound as I have hunted with. She has a monster mouth, can run a coon to catch and has caught many. Will hold a ton of pressure. She is the reason I talked Dave into letting Irene come to Kansas. Others out of the cross are probably as good if not better. I hunted Irene and my male pup tonight. It was after 9 when I left and 2 when I got home. Treed 6 trees with coon and one tree across big water and I called her to me. The coon didn't look if she had it. Years ago I would go to a hunt every weekend. Treeing lots of coon is sure enjoyable but I enjoyed it when two coon was a good hunt. I certainly understand why some would doubt the tall stories about treeing lots of coon. Guess if I lived in those tough places I would not hunt much.

i think u tell the truth, and have no problem with what u say. Only a fool would lie, someone always knows the truth. ? About price was to see if his patter dales were bred top line. Lady down the road deals in them, and sold 2 if them for more than that. Ps not to me. Lol

gcblues, I hunted every night of season back in the early 80s . If 60 coon were treed you were lucky. You can't tree them if there not there. I'm still looking for one hound that is perfect.

Set around until after 10 before going hunting. Fog was so thick you couldn't tell where you were so I didn't go far from home. Irene worked a track almost a mile before I caught her. She was going to property that I didn't have permission to be on. Next deal she struck within 100 yds and treed at 405. Sawyer was with her on both tracks and was helping out I guess. I couldn't shin the top of the big oak but thought I could see a coon in a big fork. Several different times, Irene has treed 30 to 40 trees in a row and not missed. I've seen her tree slick more than once in a single hunt. She's pretty accurate though. The fog was so bad I headed toward the house.

Didn't go tonight. Irene treed 4 last night & Sawyer got fired up on one. Sawyer is a long ways from something I would enjoy but I haven't gave up hope. He hasn't put it on aunt Irene, doubt he ever will.

Jim Combs & Jake Hall was up for a hunt. We treed 8 trees with coon. Caught one on the ground and they drug two out of dirt holes. Combs thought his dog had another one in a dirt hole. He had mud all over him a bloody nose and a ripped ear. Appeared he ran into a big boar.

Had a good hunt Thursday night with Dennis hunting Irene, and Phil Davis hunting Buster, and I was hunting Sally. We looked at 4 coon and one den tree. Frost on the ground by 9 and full moon, but the dogs still looked pretty good. Excellent hunting territory. Wish it was that nice around here. Thanks for taking us hunting and I plan on coming back up there when I get a chance. I've never made it for those good cornfield races, but it's going to happen. I'm about to learn my way up there.

Coon wasn't moving all that good and tracking was tough. The boo ticks got under a few. I still have plans to build a man cave room in the shop for hunters to get a little sleep in after hunting. Those late night drives aren't all that safe.

Marty Mailes has been up the past two nights to hunt. We have treed 9 trees with coon. It's pretty dry around here. Since the big flood in December we have received less than an inch of rain. That makes it rough on pups performance. Irene may open a time or two on the ground before treeing but the pups don't have a clue there's a coon around. The good tracks are few and far between.
