Just my opinion but West Siberian Laika. Coon, squirrel, martin/sable, game birds, duck, hogs, moose, bear, combo on any of them.

Those are some good looking Laikas fellas!

I've hunted with quite a few Busher bred dogs throughout my life, and they all seemed to be great combo dogs. Most of them were coon/squirrel/cat combos.

Those Laika's wouldn't do good down here in Louisiana...IMO To hot and humid. If you want to squirrel and coon hunt, some of the bigger strain mt. curs are your best choice.

I don't believe it would be an issue. I've got one here in middle Georgia and the heat doesn't seem to bother him anymore than other dogs. I think these Southern Laikas don't grow as much hair as Yankee Laikas . That being said, I prefer Bushers.

Ladner Blackmouth Cur. They are squirrel and coon hunting machines and you can use them for pretty much any other type of hunting you wanna do. Hog, bear, fox. You name it they'll do it.

I have hunted my Lott/Lee bred Black Mouth Curs from Maine to Washington state, and Texas to Wisconsin and virtually everywhere in between on coon and squirrel for over 30 years and have done well with them everywhere I go.

Dual purpose

Are brushers and laikos the same breed? Are they open trailers? Do they stand on the wood and tree? Like to know more about them.

Bushers are a strain of mnt curs. Lakias are the fuzzy dogs with the pig tail and look like a house they would not work for me when I started this thread I I figured it was the cur and feist board not the Lakias board that people would post their favorite kind of curs I am in no way impressed by or remotely like them they do not in anyway resemble a hunting dog

"keep it clean and nice" You said "dog", not cur/feist so maybe you should be more specific next time. I have no Laika's at this time but have good friends that are hard hunters that do. Very understandable if they don't look like you would like them but to make a statement "they do not in any way resemble a hunting dog" is really a statement of ignorance. I have started and hunted curs, feist, and hounds and many combinations of the above. The few Laikas I have started are the most natural, early starting, game crazy dogs I have been associated with. Are they for everyone, absolutely not!

JD It said dogs. Make no mistake I have hunted lots of breeds. I asked about a Northern breed section but not a lot of us in the US. This is the most hunted dog for all game in Europe and Russia. History lesson: this is the first hunting breed of dog it has been hunting with man for thousands of years. Tried and true or became a fur coat or a pair of gloves. No they are not belly on the tree barking 100 barks a minute it is considered a fault on a trial for barking excessively, jumping, or putting feet on the tree because it spooks the game. To get a one score on squirrel in Norway the dog must tree for an hour.

I wasn't trying to steal your thread I like them you have the right of choice to not like them. Many an old timer has said they liked to throw Finish spitz (direct relative of Laika) in there to make their dog have more tree. Many a man has mentioned some top lines that have some in it. Cur and feist have not adopted DNA testing to show what their dog has in it, so who knows your favorite line could have some spitz, elkhound, or laika in it with some curl in its tail but it is docked.

The house dog comment if I was the offending type could be said about other breeds. I grew up with hounds and beagles as far as I was concerned, as a young man, the rest were ill bred as the dictionary definition says, but that was ignorant thinking on my own part. I never worry about the look of the dog but the hunt and game finding ability. These dogs fit the bill and I apologize you felt I took your thread by mentioning a breed you do not feel hunts or fits this thread.
