Dual Grand Dillions Smoken Bl. Magic at 13 Yrs of age

Darin took Magic out last night for Magic's birthday. Magic is 13 now and mostly blind and cant hardly hear but has not forgotten how to tree the coon. He treed three for Darin and his two sons, Nick and Lyndon which are shown. The area which they hunted is not the easiest place to get it done. For personal reasons a few years back, I had dropped out of coon hunting for approx. 6 years but after hunting with Magic at his young age, he is the reason I got back into it. Magic is one of the best that I have followed.
Just thought I would share this.

Good to see those young fellows enjoying an old hound. Better enjoy him now, they seem to leave way too quick. Some of the last hunts I took with an old friend are the ones that I remember most.

Magic

I will never forget this hunt.I bought boys new bibs and coats and they were excited to wear them so we loaded magic up and took him out for his 13th Birthday. We got out of truck I told boys lets take a minute to look up to heaven and let grandpa Dennis (my dad) know we was thinking of him.My boys never got to meet my dad but I try to show pictures and let them know about him and tell them he is really proud of them.We turned loose magic struck at about 300 yards ran coon in corn another 300 yards and treed. Had coon looking out den.walked down to creek so magic could get a drink turned loose again magic went in about 80 yards and just fell treed water was deep and I told boys to wait I would get magic.I went into tree and he had a coon asleep in the fork of tree. Turned him loose again he opened few times down creek and treed. We found good spot to cross went to magic he was on a den with coon partially out. Must have been more in there.i was able to shoot this one and get it down to the ole boy.Kids were really excited and they said magic is a good dog dad. To them he is the best even old and fading in all aspects he still is the best.He is the best to us anyways. He is more than just a hunting dog he is a part of the family. My dad past away 11years ago and seen magic tree his first coon.He treed with another dog running and had coon and never looked anywhere but up didn't care what other dog was doing.thats how he has always been not trained naturally independent and stay put tree dog who could run most any kind of track and good about having coon.Dad told me he was going to make me a good dog.You was right dad miss ya.My good friend Bill Hubbard helped me get magic .We drove to Joe Moyers and got magic when he was around 8months old.Magic was bred by Danny Perez who owned his mom and dad Bandit and Betty. When magic started doing good I was excited to show Bill his progress and Bill went out with me and I will never forget worked a very rough track up a creek and ended up with coon and Bill told me not very many young dogs could have worked that track like that and tree that coon.I was proud that Magic impressed Bill because Bill isn't easily impressed because he has high standards and has had top dogs.Magic got Bill back into hunting and this is another reason Magic means so much to me.I have met a lot of people through Magic that I would have never known otherwise especially one who I consider a good friend Damon Shivers. My kids seeing magic tree coon and even though he is old they think he is the best. This is the biggest reason Magic means the most helping make memories with my kids that I will cherish forever. Magic won hunts competed highly with some top dogs in this registry and -kc and done pretty well in limited hunts but now he has gotten old and I know his time is limited none of the competition stuff really means what I thought it did.I got excited had good times when magic would win but I look back now what means the most is Dad seeing him tree his first coon telling me he was going to be a good one,My good friend Bill getting back into it because of magic , and my kids and I having the chance to bond and make memories and I guess seeing many walker dog owners being upset because ole blue came out on top.lol. Happy Birthday Magic Thank you for everything your not just a hunting dog to me you hold a special place in my heart.I know your time on earth is getting close and wanted everyone to know why you are so special ole boy.Thank you to everyone who I've met and all the kind words and to everyone that had anything to do with Dual Grand Dillion's Smoken Blue Magic

I have a grandpup of magic she's out of Bill Laroche male and female. I like her a lot and I hope she brings me as much happiness as magic has for you! It's great to hear from people that have this kind of love and affection for a hound they become a part of our lives and impact in in great ways in a short amount of time , it's sad to see them get old! I hope you keep them boys in the woods and shoot a few more coon out to magic because you'll always have those memories on top of all the rest!

Awesome!

You are wise beyond your years Darian! You have figured out what most (including myself) are still unraveling.

You have your priorities lined out as they should be. The Good Lord is #1, Family #2, the means to support your Family #3. You are cherishing your time with your boys & your bond with your hound that has given you many fine memories over the years. As you mention, the hunts are a neat thing, & it is fun to do good & win a few casts along the way, but truly enjoying your time on this earth with your Family & your hounds outweighs those hunts!

As I have been reminded this week, if a person gets those priorities skewed around a bit, the Good Lord can serve up a dose of humble pie that will flat out get a mans attention.

Thank you for making the time to take me hunting with Magic back in 2007. That ole rascal nailed down 3 coon that night & looked good doing it. You and Bill have always been super nice to me. I hope you & your boys have a blast this season!

Take care,
Vic

Vic,
You just about said what I was thinking to a tee! Long after ole Magic is gone, the memories will linger on.
Good luck Darian and enjoy those youngsters, they will be grown before you know it. Great story!!
