Better pups

What's the better pedigree to get blue pups from?

Kind of a loaded question. I don't think there's a right or wrong line as long as it puts the coon up a tree. JMO

But put in some research time on the popular lines like Jet, Hammer, uchtmann for example. Try and talk to a bunch of people on the phone rather than on here. You'll get better info faster. IMO

Glad to hear you are considering getting a bluetick pup. I may be wrong but I am guessing you are a younger hunter or just getting started in coon hounds. This is no way meant to get you to try and buy a pup from me so please don't take it that way. There are some good honest bluetick folks down in Indiana so I would suggest getting one from down in that neck of the woods. You should be able to get some support and direction in working with someone locally. You may want to buy the best pup or dog available that you can afford to buy and take care of. It is my opinion that usually you get what you pay for.
As far as pedigree goes I think most honest folks would agree that there are good and bad in all of the lines and it just depends on what type of dog suits you. If you can hunt with the male and female ahead of time that may give you an indication on what they could reproduce but nothing is for sure. Good luck in your search and I hope this helps you out.

Scott

Scott has given sound advice. I would like to add... because I have went through quite a few dogs only to be left disappointed and to the point of giving up.

Look at what the parents of the pup have thrown before. Some are fine coon dogs but very, very poor reproducers.

Try to avoid, to start with, first time pups. Meaning the pups are the first litter the parents have produced. Nothing wrong with those types but to get a better understanding of what your pup might be you want something to go off, older pups etc...

This might makes some folks mad but oh well... If someone is getting rid of a dog/pup or is selling it real cheap. 9 times out of 10 there is a really good reason.

Try to hunt with both parents. That will give you an idea of what to possibly expect out of your pup.

BE PAITENT!!!! Not all pups turn on young. Give the dog PLENTY of time and DO NOT rush it.

I don't think the question is a rude one. Just didn't want to give any specific line. I've hunted with a few real good dogs out of some different lines. Scott gave you good advice. I was trying to get you to talk to some of the older guys that know what they're breeding. Since they've been doing it for longer than most people have been hunting.
Not to discourage you about getting a pup. But I'd actually recommend getting a broke older dog first. Not to use as a pup trainer, but that way you can learn some from the dog. And you'd be able to reap the rewards almost instantly. You can find good dogs for decent prices(sometimes free). It takes a lot of time and patience for training a pup. And don't put blinders on for a specific line. IMO Another thing is there are older dogs that might not be as fast as they used to be but can still get it done in good fashion. I'll also recommend that if you choose to go the route of an older dog take another person with you that knows a good deal about this sport too. There might be a question that you might not think to ask that your buddy might.
But its your decision to make not mine. I hope I helped you out. And Welcome to a great sport!!!!!! I hope you find what your looking for.
