The question to be answerd

Is , is there really a REPRODUCER, I'd say vary few, there are some nice producing studs but not many that actually reproduce, I have seen super nice hounds that have thrown some nice offspring but it's hard to actually pinpoint one that has consistently reproduced himself, I think the list is a great tool to help identify hounds throwing consistent winners , but not necessarily proving one to be a reproducer, for example, most bluetick men would say that Spare time spanky was a reproducer, I would have to disagree, I have hunted and hunted with some nice hounds out of old spanky for sure, But never saw or heard of one that put together a list of wins as he did, of coarse this is based on comp. hunts which is what your reproducer s list is based on, PRODUCER or REPRODUCER , there is a difference, good luck hope you find what your looking for, and remember there's two sides to every breeding....Gerald

Most of the top studs on that list or any other list, crossed real well on certain females.

I'm not sure there has ever been a dog in any of the breeds that did much better.

Some dogs are better promoted and get a better class of females bred to them. That also makes a real difference.

But a lot of the dogs that make the list have numbers that mostly depend on a small number of "niche" crosses that get and over and over again because they clicked.

If there was a dog somewhere that reproduced top hounds out of just about any female, we'd all be breeding to him, ad we would be seeing something that has never been seen in the history of coon dogs.

Breeding for a crackerjack coon dog is as much art as it is science, and there is a pretty good dose of luck needed.

And then you have to train that good one.

This sport wouldn't be nearly as intriguing if it was easy.

And good dogs wouldn't be so rare and expensive.

I agree with a lot that has been said,I believe the smokey hound owned by bo is a good reproducer.I've seen him throw consistent nice hounds out of almost every female.I'm not kissing but either I don't own one from him but have continued to see good hounds out of him and he's not a old hound.I believe his numbers will climb through the years.it's my opinion, not a fact.

BOOMERS STATS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
UKC HAS IT ALL IN BLACK AND WHITE
MIGHT COST YOU $25 BUT WELL WORTH THE TRUTH
CHECK BOOMERS CAST WIN PERCENTAGES
CHECK HOW MANY DOGS WAS IN THE HUNTS HE WON
CHECK ALL FEMALES BRED TO HIM AND WHAT PUPS ARE WINNING HUNTS AND HOW MANY DOGS IN HUNTS
CHECK WHAT DOGS OUT OF HIM ARE REPRODUCING

FEMALES COME BACK TO A STUD DOG BECAUSE THEY REPRODUCED SOMETHING GOOD THE FIRST GO AROUND
IT IS UP TO THE STUD DOG TO THROW GOOD PUPS
ITS UP TO THE PROMOTER TO TRY TO BRING IN FEMALES
NO ONE WOULD SHOW UP HERE IF HE HAD A 2.9 %

BOOMER HAS HAD A LOT OF HIGH CLASS FEMALES BRED TO HIM, BECAUSE HE HAS PROVEN TO BE A WORTHY REPRODUCER AND THAT DRAWS TOP FEMALES
5 DIFFERENT PUPS OUT OF 4 DIFFERENT FEMALES GOT WINS AT BBOA DAYS IN ANGOLA , GOT BOOM OFF TO A GOOD START.

John....you are about as accurate as one could be with these statements.
A fella can say "my dogs kickin out 10% nite champs but that also means 90 % wernt nite champs too .!

The thing is some studs have 90 percent of their pups in the hands of comp hunters and just 10 percent make a titled dog.
The next stud might produce 5% titled dogs but only half of his pups got into hands of comp hunters.....
I usta put alot of stock into my decisions by the reproducers list..but over time Im convinced its a crap shoot...

But there again ther are few tools to gauge a stud by if ya aint hunted with him or live close nuff to do so.

Also Everett...you make some real good visualizations in yer comment.

As always....jmo.
Enjoy the hounds , they will sort themselves out regardless of which stud holds the current top spot.

Stud??

I think we all can find pro's and con's in our assessment of a top stud dog. To me it all boils down to a statement that I remember Mr. Dean said years ago. "Everybody loves a winner." We all know if a person wants to put a ton of money into advertising, it can be productive. I have and I'm sure many of you have seen these top studs in every breed that come and go quickly but make a very big impact while they're there. Why? Advertising and money to back said dog. To reach the top, and stay there, it takes the real deal and it's not hard to figure it out once the pups and grand pups start showing up. Some dogs, in our breed, have stood the test of time because of that. There's a reason a person wants to double up on Jet V or Rambo II or SR Jbs Chief or Ucthmans Hawk, just to mention a few. These dogs stood the test of time. Not trying to take sides but Terry's Boomer dog has made a lot of noise and I'm sure it's not just because he's been advertised heavy, it's because it's what he's producing, JMO. The same could be said about several Studs in America, you can pick your own and I promise I will respect your opinion. I have had many good coon hounds out of top studs that were never campaigned and never helped that stud or dam in the polls one bit but it still did not affect the way I looked at their parents. Many folks buy a pup out of a top reproducer so they may have a chance at a top coon dog and never have any attention of campaigning them. I thought I'd through a few more comments out there to show a different way of looking at it. As always, I do respect all comments as those who make them have their opinions too. Our kill season comes in this Saturday, I'm hunting an 11 month old male and he's turning the crank, I'm excited! Hope everyone has a great day.
