Illinois. 1st drop usually within 500 yds. as the night goes on they seem to get farther though

Don't know, I generally only look at the Garmin if I don't know where they are so I guess I live in a state of confusion :-)

In all seriousness though the majority of the time it's inside a 1/4 mile so 500 yards covers it pretty well.

Some places are better than others at different times like mulberriessome are really close but cherries are another story. corn and acorn same differance. usually within a half in corn way closer .

I have a few places where the coon will tree close, less than 100 yards. But most other places will be between 300 and 600 yards. South Louisiana. Every once in awhile we will get one that will go close to a mile. How ever some of these 300-600 yard coons may run in a cutover for 45 mins to a hour.

1/2 mile, Mississippi. Usually struck within the 500 but the majority of times to the tree is further.

1.4 miles a weekend ago. It was getting to the point I thought maybe he was running something he shouldn't but he treed and I could tell it was a big old bore. I hunt my area in WV a lot and they are running a good ways anymore.

I thought thats what i gave under a half usually to get struck bought the same 600-1000 yrds til they climb. mulberries and corn way less the dont have alot of food options so the stay closer

Here in SE Ohio with 40 + years of hunting here my hounds on average strike within 200-300 yards and tree from 300 -600 yards Now those numbers shift significantly here in the months of December when coon stop moving and in January when the boars start rutting. But on average in the spring and fall, the above numbers would be pretty accurate. By the way, I live in hill country, so its not just a short walk across a flat field to my hounds, LOL. Its usually 30o yards straight up hill to the tree..

Here where I have been hunting lately in NE Ohio it is also 200-300 to get stuck and the coon rarely go over 200 yards before treed.

It will defiantly spoil both hunter and hound but I am excited to get back home(NE Tx) here in a few weeks and listen to the dogs work a track. You tree less coons down there but I miss getting to hear the dogs work a track a ways before they get treed. A good running coon here in ohio would be equivelant to what we call a pop up down where I grew up hunting.

Stuck in between 200-400 and tree between 500-800 prob bout average here in Southern Missouri. But it changes lot during rut b lot deeper. But in summer have lot creeks and ponds that can kick out on and get treed really fast.

I voted within 1/2 mile. I almost wanted to say 500 yards or less but I do get my share of 6,7 or 800 yards when they get much deeper than that I start wondering if that was a coon the whole way or something with allot longer legs.

Usually mine strike within 100 to 200 yards,,and tree within 400 to 500 yards,,once in awhile they may get out to 6-700 yards before they tree,,but not very often,,I'm from northwest Ohio

as the houndsman i can control alot of the distance so the info i give would mean nothing consistent for an average depending on how i choose to hunt them.i like to road the dogs simply for the excercise knowing there wont be a coon for awhile.and if i take kids hunting ill go right to where the coon are and dump them for a quick race and tree ,because you know how kids are.also if you rig you can tell how hot a track is before you let them go.way to many variables to give an average,because it is a changeing average which isnt really an average,and info that is helpful sorry.coon arent exactly track stars,but once in awhile one gives a race that is sure extra fun to listen to.

vic, you also said there is tons of den trees up north also correct? I have hunted the same areas for 20+ years and like to think I know my own country and farms pretty well. I would guess we have 2-4 dens per section. I think you know what I am getting at bud
