Spur & Cricket pups
Dad called and said the neighbor dropped off a coon that he caught out of his sweet corn and was bringing it out to work with his young dogs. The two young pups out of Spur & Cricket I have running around the place are too young for me to work with so I just let them do what ever they want until they start chasing the chickens, then I step in. It took about a week of correcting, but they don't chase them anymore, LOL. I still let them run loose and get into everything else. So they were right in there when Dad pulled that caged coon out of his truck.
Dad tied his dogs out, showed the coon to the dogs, and started dragging that coon across the pasture, across the creek and up to a tree. Well one of those little pups, Samson, would not leave that coon alone. Crook, the other little pup, showed interest, but he wasn't following it away from the house. Here's a couple short video clips I took that evening.
One of Dad's dogs broke his lead and ran in to us while I was trying to catch the pup on video.
Samson wasn't giving up. He followed that coon clear to the tree. We thought it was pretty funny.
This same pup two weeks earlier followed us from the house during a short hunt with the older dogs. He followed us across the creek and up the hill where we stood until the dogs treed. I looked around but he was gone. After we finished the tree and making a loop around the cornfield I went back to the house to start looking for the pup. Surprisingly, he had made his way back to the house by himself.
