Question

Any of you all switch to squirrel hunting from coonhunting it's crossed my mind a lot lately for those of you that have do you think squirrel hunting is as fun or funner or not as fun as coonhunting. It is just getting hard to stay out half the night anymore working 6 or 7 days a week and a 4 year old at home wearing you out. Also it's very hard to find big enough farms to hold a couple of hounds from what ive been told is that squirrel dogs don't usually range out as far as hounds but i could be totally wrong. Just like to hear some opinions from people who have done it thanks.

I made the switch about 4 years ago and don't regret it at all. Don't have to walk as far but we have 2 times the population of sqs than coons. I saw more game switching to curs. Most curs will tree both coons and sqs or what ever u want them to. Where are you located? Best thing to do is find someone who hunts hard near you and go with them a few times to see if it's somthing you want to get into.

I have a few friends that have young ones and they like to go sq hunting. I think I did it cause I was scared of the dark. Don't like coon hunting alone but it doesn't bother me to go alone squirrel hunting for some reason.

Just made the switch I have one hound left just because I am half owner and tole him I would train the pup. I love my curs when it's time to go they are easy to get loaded I open pen and they jump in back of truck in dog box. You can tree 3 or 4 in a nice patch of woods with out all the walking my kids love it. However on them cool nights in October I still get that itch and want to go coonin them curs can tree a coon..... Or possum....shhhh.....if you still want to go

I switched over full time about 4-5 years ago I coon hunted for 24 years and I've always used my hounds on sq too, but decided that if I'm going to do it right I'm going to use a dog bred soly for sq! No regrets here. I do still have two hounds Its a Hard habit to break!

I have walkers and one squirrel dog and I kind of like it that way. I'd be lying to you if I said I like a cur as well as a coon hound on coon and I'm not as serious about hunting squirrel as coon but I'd hate to give up my squirrel dog. It's a nice change off pace to go tree some squirrels.
