bar none best hunt ever had.
mama was working this morn and me and little guy had easy day planned. check cattle, fences, and waters couple times and otherwise stay cool for day. at 7:30 he got up and all worried i didnt hunt last night. he says i wanna go coon hunting... i thought for second and said i do to! loaded minn and trix in buggy and by 8 oclock hitting some places hoping for good strike to run. daylight hunting hit and miss ive done it a bunch but hoping for something especially with mulberries ripe. got 3 different strikes that dogs tried and couldnt move track so called em back on each one before blew out of country. tough conditions with already warm and sun shining hard. also wanted to contain hunt with little guy along and not get way in somewhere. pretty much gave up and finished checking cattle when got best strike had heard yet. dogs moved it into deep ravine slowly and no doubt why could track better where sun hadnt hit. they ended up treed in brush pile after tracking through cedar infested hilly hell hole. walk in was tough with all thorny stuff and sharp cedars with little guy, but him being short was plus getting through it!!! not one complaint. this was first hunt he come on without mom along. usually they stay at vehicle or in open place when gets thick till i get dogs.
dogs were in pile barking hard and from time to time heard coon hiss and squeal in dead cedar pile, coon was just out of reach of dogs. little guy was smiling ear to ear. got girls called out and tied back. i broke about 100 branches so me and him could crawl in and see coon. shined with trusty sam davis superior spotlight that always on my vest and caden starts saying over and over "i wanna go back by minn" i wanna go back by minn. LOL.
we got back out of pile by dogs and i tried explaining to him when coon hunting hardly ever shoot coon and when do its in winter time. he understood best a newly 4 year old could. LOL. he still wished had brought his toy gun to shoot it. LOL. he kept saying dad we have best coondogs in the world. i said yep we do! i know its not so with dogs broken down and wore out at 10 and 11 years old but if he thinks so thats great!
ive been on some of the best and worst coon hunts over the years, big game hunted, bird hunted, fished, shot record book deer, and not one moment compared to couple hours in the woods with couple broken down old hounds and 4 year old boy.
i like taking pictures and these best ive ever taken!!!
first strike from rig, they couldnt move track.
