I'm preparing to raise my first litter of pups, my female is due to have them in about 8 days. I have just a normal 10x10x6 kennel set up with a blue drum that she normally stays in. I need to make some changes to get ready because I know that won't cut it. What has worked well for everyone else? Pictures would be great. Limited budget.

We normally let her have them in that dog house. We clean the house out & leave her & Pups in there for a few days. This time of year we hang fans in the kennel above,but, not too close to pups. Heat Lights (from tractor supply)in winter. Our Last litter was born 7-13-15. Extremely Hot here in South Georgia in July. A Day or Two After The Delivery we brought Mom & Pups Inside & Kept them in a Small to Medium Size Hard Plastic Pool with a Rug. Switch the Rug out every several days. We have two 4 ft high Kennel's we hooked together to make an area where the mom can't wander around the house. Some People us their Garages instead of inside house. Instead of a pool you could use a Extra Large Dog Carrier untill pups get older. We moved pups back outside after about 2 to 2 1/2 weeks.

A lot of people are useing little plastic swimming pools to have pups in (the ones 4ft in diameter or something like that.

Me I use a secluded room that the female will stay calm in a nervous mother will usually smother the pups. Set a small pen up around Pool so she has enough room to get out of pool to eat or pee. when there eyes open off to the dog house they go.

Best advise do what ever you think is right. A lot of different methods

i got some cheap land scaping timbers from like lowes and cut them in half. from there i got a couplf of cheap sheets of plywood type material. nailed a floor on to the timbers and made 4 sides that i nailed to the timbers also. also made a railing around the inside out of 2 x 4s to keep dog from laying on pups. this setup will last you for a good while. just make sure it is big enough

I bring all of my females into the basement and let them whelp them in the kiddie swimming pool as mentioned above.

I too use the kids pool. Put a 5' x10' kennel in the shed. Have a dog door with outside kennel so she can go out when she wants. We put an electric blanket under the pool to help keep the pups warm

for mine i have an above ground kennel. around 4'widex8'longx3'high the plywood box is 4'wide maybe 3x3long n high. straw bedding. nothing fancy but it works nice. i have a litter of 14 in there right now about 5 days old.
when i don't have pups i still use the pen.

I use a 4ftX4ft wood dog house with a pup rail around the inside about 5to6in up from the floor. I put 3layers of carpet down so I can just pull a pc out at a time to keep things clean. I like carpet so the female can get traction while birthing to like herself.

Biggest problem I have with using carpet is it gets wet and then the puppies get wet

A RUG THAT HAS A FIRM BACKING SO THE RUG DOESN'T ROLL UP. Then Like I said before we Swap the rug out every 2 to 3 days. Wash & Hang out the wet one. This keeps pups dry & gives them some traction in the pool.
