So, it looks like I'm going to be getting a male, bluetick puppy.

This will be my first coonhound, anything I should know or be weary of in advance? I know that they are high energy and I need to excercise him vigorously everyday. What else should I be aware of?

OH Man with that opening there's So MANY wise cracks I could make to pick on the bluedog guys but since you said It's your 1st coon hound I'll abstain. LOL
for starters when you start taking him into the woods you better get him some tick prevention. There's some threads on here right now on the subject. Myself I've used Seargents for the past couple years with good results but just last week I had my buddy put cow tags on all my dog's collars. This is the 1st time I've tried it so I can't say how well they work but everybody I've talked to that use them say they work real well. just make sure you do get something on him though, those ticks are a real problem the last few years.

I will definitely do that. I know that it's been a big talk this year, after the winter we had in NY that the ticks are going to be real real bad this year.

Haul him in the as much as possible, get him socialized after hauling him around so much he'll learn to load up all by himself.....at least my dogs did

Just looked it up. I definitely plan on getting him used to riding in the truck.

He's going to be a pet first and foremost, but I do want to train him for some recreational hunting.
