We have had this discussion so many times with people who have old pellet straws of semen they are dying to use but don't want to invest the money into the litter.

We had one straw of Kentucky River Rowdy semen left. By that I mean there is NO MORE anywhere.

We had one young, health female (who just so happens to be directly off Lipper, so that makes her a frozen semen baby as well) that was not a first time mother and had the tools to be a great mom and a great contributor to the Treeing Walker breed.

We had a fabulous vet and his staff in Rincon, GA (Webb Animal Hospital) named Dr Joe McKenzie, who took the steps required to take to help produce a litter of puppies that is in itself a miracle. The semen was stored over 17 years ago AND was only at 40% when thawed out to be implanted 61 days ago.

Because of the dedication of these awesome folks, GRCH Houses Lipper's Hope and GRNITCH GRCH Kentucky River Rowdy produced 12 pups. 7 males and 5 females. This is an overwhelming experience for us. As of now, just about 24 hours from the pups being born, all are well. I am so proud of this.
This litter may not impact one person except for those who love this cross and bloodline. We hope that it also brings in some old blood and impacts the Treeing Walker breed in years to come.

Be sure to weigh your options when it comes to AI breeding. There are something's money just cant buy nor replace.

Congrats Cleo! I agree....a vaginal insemination is crazy with frozen semen. A Trans cervical or surgical insemination is always the way to go. In the instance of compromised semen that is under 50% post thaw motility or if the bitch is 7+ years I would always consider a surgical Insemination. Many females 7+ have uterine morphology that can be visualized with a surgical implant. There is little difference in success rate between TCI and SI in healthy females with quality frozen semen. I recently did a female with what I told the owner was "poor" quality and they had 8 healthy pups.

I don't see any puppy rails in the whelping box , is there ? I would be scared with a litter like that of a couple of them getting squashed . congrats on the litter and good luck with them . these ai post really interest me as I am going the semen route here soon . being in texas all the dogs I want to breed to are waaayyyy up north ! kind of makes it hard to get a gyp bred .
