How to keep a dog hydrated?

We have all had that one dog that didn't drink much water and seems to get overheated on warmer nights. What have some of you guys done that seemed to work?

My Ike dog is a outsdanding hound. He is a one of a kind but he doesn't drink much water and when hunting he drinks like a fish. I'd like to get fluids in him before a big hunt.

Does he get all hot and about to fall out? If not he prolly drinks enough water. Ive saw some natural feeds increase water intake. What you feeding? What I mean if your not feeding a natural. Could try it and see if he drinks more.

pigs

I know when i was in school and the FFA pigs were dehydrated we would give them firewater ( Just electroletroleyes or how ever you spell it) And one time my dad had a doberman pup that was dehydrated and we gave him some gatorade and he seemed to perk up.

I feed Pride Pro series 21-17

I have tried Diamond EA and Diamond Naturals and it didn't help any and he didn't like it.

Vet. told me no gatorade, said its made for humans because we sweat and dogs dont. Best thing is just try to keep him wet, i carry a bottle of water in the summer and wet them down good at the tree.

I believe they sweat through their foot pads. Ive seen a dog walk on cement in summer and leave sweat prints, Not trying to fight or prove you wrong. JMO

There is no scientific proof that a dog needs anything but fresh water to stay hydrated. With that being said I am going to give you my opinion based on nothing more than my personal observation of the use of a product on one specific dog. I suggest you try Bounce Back electrolyte supplement. It can be purchased at your local farm store. Tractor Supply , Rural King etc.

My friend has a dog that for some reason seems to get more heated up while hunting than the other dogs. He is in shape and can go all night as long as the weather is cool. But hunting in warmer temperatures he would heat up much more than you would expect. This normally 100 bark a minute tree dog would get down to 10 tree barks a minute when he gets hot. We started mixing Bounce Back supplement in his feed with nothing but fresh water to drink while kenneled. On hunting nights we would mix Bounce Back in the water we carry for dogs. The results were remarkable. He ran much cooler and did his normal hunting and treeing even in the heat of the summer months. I'm definitely not suggesting every dog needs this product but if you have that one in a hundred dog that seems to have difficulty in the heat I think it might help.

Bounce Back multi species electrolyte supplement made by Manna Pro. Our vet said it was a good product made by a good company and absolutely safe to use. It is also not that expensive to try.

Good luck.

I train every day 2 hours a day, Gatorade is garbage. Water and lots of it is the best. If Gatorade does crap for a human, what do you think it will do for a dog? I'm guessing you pry hit your dogs up with some 5 hrs before a comp hunt to?

If the sled dog guys are saying water baiting is the way to go...its probably the way to go.

If you want him to drink more water, get a clean five gallon bucket, fill with fresh water add a can of condensed milk, dogs like the taste and will drink a lot of it. Tom
