The Garmin ALPHA was 40 years to late!!
Just think what the ALPHA would of and could of done to change coonhunting as we know it today, if it would only have came out 30 to 40 years ago.
Instead of turning your LIPPER pup loose and hearing it bark about a mile in that direction and then in five minutes hearing it bark a mile in the other direction only to wait a few more minutes and it would be running in another direction. You think some of the old timers would of figured out something was up and would try and correct it. Might of only had 2,000 pups instead of 5,000.
Instead of listening to your COLD nose dog work a track all over the side of the mountain you would look at the screen and see that instead of it taking the track everywhere it was only going back and forth on the same track. Instead of cutting another log for the fire, you think a switch would of been cut to correct the dog. Better yet a button pushed to let the dog know to get off the same track it has been going back and forth on for an hour.
John Wick could of probably wrote two or three more chapters for his book, and maybe would of never owned a cur dog. (Sorry John, I just had to throw that in).
All your dogs that quit tracks and came back, instead of thinking how the coon went in a hole. You could of marked the spot and found the dead possum.
All the trees you cut down to get the coon out of, you could of marked and known where to get firewood from for the winter.
Instead of listening to your buddies dog take a track across the mountain wondering where your dog was. You would know your buddies dog was running your dog.
All those hard hunting dogs that would make a bed as soon as they were out of your sight could have been exposed instead of bred to for that go power in your pack.
Just think of what could of been done with all the Knowledge that Garmin would have brought us and the amount of poor genetics that could have been eliminated from our dogs.
OK, I am bored. Waiting for my Grand Daughter to get here so we can go out and play with some dogs. I want to take a video of a hard tree dog today (if I have one) for that other post. I just hope my Grand Daughter gets here before noon, dogs don't tree as hard in the heat of the day.
