Poll - which dog ???

Which dog would you buy? You can only buy one. Both dogs just turned 3 years old. Price is $1,500 for either dog. You had a one month trial for each dog.

Dog A. - So many traits you like. Awesome mouth. Bawl on track like a slow moving freight train. Chop on tree like 10 bags of pop corn all cooking at once in the microwave. LOUD LOUD LOUD. Track power plus tree power. VERY VERY accurate. Hunts hard and fast. Trees lay ups regularly other dogs cannot smell at all. Minds good. Opens on track according to the track. Does not babble at all. Honest strike dog. Hes got all these traits you like. Here are his faults. - The dog is not independent. He wont leave a tree or track to go to another dog but if he doesn't have anything going he will defentily pack up with other dogs. He hunts with other dogs, tracks with other dogs, trees with other dogs. Also, the dog absolutely cannot stand fang pressure. If a dog at the tree jumps in his face and barks, its over. The dog is gone. Period. He leaves the tree. The dog has never ever ever been competition hunted. But you hunted the dog on trial for a month and he treed coons regularly. Not a mean hair on the dog.

Dog B. -
Hunts hard and fast. VERY VERY accurate. Great at layups. Fast on track. Track power plus tree power. Super quick locator . Good locate. SUPER SUPER indendant. Absolute dead loner. Absolutly will not track or tree with other dogs. You unsnap the dog and he goes the OPPOSITE direction from the other dogs. No matter what. WILL NOT go to other dogs it don't matter if they got a coon on the ground fighting it. IF a dog comes to HIS TREE no dog stays. You've tested it. NO DOG stays over about 1 minute tops on the tree with him. Your certain that something aint right at the tree. But this dog NEVER EVER EVER leaves the tree. Generally the other dog will be gone in 30 seconds or 1 minute tops. The dog chops on track. You hate that. The dog NEVER shuts up. Barks from the time you open the dog box till the time you put him back in. Impossible to minus the dog for shutting up cause he DONT shut up. Hes "struck" when you open the dog box and he aint done treeing till you put him back in the dog box. Heres the kicker - Hes a nite champion with 3 wins to grand nite and hes ALREADY got $10,000 won in the other KC at only 3 years old. Heres the other kicker. The owner and the hired handlers for dog B have been suspended more than one time for cheating and falsifying documents in BOTH kennel clubs. Its common knowledge to the entire coonhound world what the deal is.

Vote. Which dog would you buy ? you can ONLY buy one.

Good post.

For me, alot would hinge on being able to prove or disprove 'B' being rough.
Infamous former owner would have no bearing for me.

Are you buying a keeper, or an investment that you will eventually sell? Do you wanna pleasure hunt, or win..?

Bonus points for a Waylon Jennings reference!

People can say whatever that want, but winners sell. I absolutely don't want one mean, but I'd rather collect a collar than chase a coward. Give me one that stays...

A dog that never shuts up is an idiot, I don't care how many coons he trees he is a pain to own or hunt with.

Dog A would be my pick. Can't stand a dog that doesn't know when to shut up, and mean to top it off. I don't care what it's won.

Myself would pick dog A if these were the only 2 dogs to pick from but I also do more hunting with buddies. And I wouldn't own a dog I couldn't take to the woods with them. JMO

I'd keep looking. I don't want a gator or a dog that leaves any tree. If dog A would sit back and tree a little ways off to stay out of trouble I'd have picked it.

This poll is showing me again that in the coonhound world there is a silent majority out there that still at least somewhat value some of the same things I do. I believe it's only a matter of time before the silent majority finally teams up and gets a plan and starts a revolution of the coonhound world.
