Rickets

My new pup started walking crooked on front foot, wants to buckle over at 1st joint above foot. Vet said to give it Tums for added calcium. I think it needs some cod fish oil, but don't remember how much to give it. Give me some idea about dosage- like 5cc/day or whatever has worked for you. Take care, Ron.

I went to walmart and bought calcium pills. 600mg and I broke it in half and gave half in the am and the other half in the pm. About three days and my pups leg was back to normal. Think its about $5 for a big bottle.

Rickets

I had one that had them, vet told me to get him in the sun light and cut down the protein. Also put a cap full of the cod oil in his food. One or a combo of all three worked. He cleared up.

I got a pup with it once and it was just a matter of putting it on a good puppy feed that has all the stuff pups need to grow and plenty of sunshine. Within a week his legs were normal.

pup

I've had her on Purina puppy chow (full feed) since I brought her home- that's why I couldn't believe it to happen. Been giving her 1/2 Tums (500mg cal.) for week now. Wormed again today & started on cod fish oil (high in A&D) today. Hopefully, it will start to straighten soon. Take care, Ron.

I have had 2 do it over the years and both where on puppy chow. Calcium pills fixed them both.

Was feeding my pups Victor puppy food. And they still came down with rickets. Go figure.

Give your pup 3CC's of Cod Liver Oil twice a day until it straightens out, C.L.O should take care of the problem.

ron, it's a tuff winter. if the pup is cooped up inside a lot, it may need more sunlite.

If you are feeding it full feed cut it back some. I've had 4 pups do this over the years they all of them in the winter and they all came out of it with no issues and no special treatment. I tried the cod liver oil once it was a waste of time.
