Gnawing

Anyone have any ideas on how to brake a dog from gnawing when he is on a tree?

your local coop or TSC should carry it. When you get to the tree just soak the spot that its been gnawing and chewing

Yep! A chewing dog is a stay put tree dog.

Find a vet that will knock them out and take a dremel tool and cut their canine teeth down to past the root. Worked on mine in 2009 and then he went on to win Pkc national male leader that year.

Hog rings in back jaw. Have to do every 6 months but it works. Doolins deal works also.

If a veterinarian really did that without performing a root canal and cap then he or she could lose their license. If you take a tooth down to the gum line it exposes the live pulp chamber which most likely would lead to a tooth root abscess which is really painful. You would be better off doing a crown amputation and performing a root canal and cap. Otherwise performing a full tooth extraction would be the only other humane treatment. Never just cut a tooth down or dremmel it down without proper treatment of the exposed live pulp chamber.

just a word to the wise--
in my experience, gnawing is how tree climbing starts. if you hear him go silent suddenly when he's been treeing, you may find he
is climbing. mine started gnawing as high up as he could reach, then one day discovered he could grab a low hanging branch and boost himself up. Within a year, he was climbing way up..

Learn to use a slip lead properly, sport dog and bird dog guys use pressurized training regular. Teach the dog to sit. Condition the dog to an e collar. If done properly the dog will think the e collar is the slip lead. Next teach the dog to sit at the tree and bark. This will be done the easiest by hunting the dog alone. Once the dog has learn to sit and express it's frustration through barking, this will curb the dogs desire to chew, because it has now learned a new and preferred way to release its frustration. Making the dog sit at the tree will help the dog learn a new to control it's frustration and teach it an acceptable form of releasing its frustration barking.

You can also use the slip lead to tie a dog up at the tree this will help keep them calm. Also quit any praising hollering squalling and petting at the tree, this only adds to the frustrations a dog feels at the tree.
