I had a 8 year old COONDOG in every sense of the word that would not even look at a caged or dead coon. Had an English pup that wouldn't once too. Sold her before her first birthday for $1500 off the tree under a coon. I'm not saying that pup ain't a cull. Most every litter is gonna have some. You can't tell at a year old though unless they are mean. Lots of coondogs have been given away because they were late starters.

if the dog does nothing at a year I would be concerned. but what does he mean by nothing? will it go with the experienced dogs at all? does it act like it wants to hunt? does it stay under foot? I can accept a dog not treeing at a year and not showing interest in a caged coon at a year or older, but doing nothing, if that's what he really means would be cause for concern. also, what about the dame, she plays a key role too.

There is a great need for improved training programs with most hunters. The problem begins with themselves considering themselves hunters and not houndsmen and trainers. We could learn a great many lessons from other sporting and working dog communities but many are set in there ways.

There certainly is no need to publicly bash anyone else's dogs or breeding program

I thought that was how they did it these days. show a dog a caged coon a few times and bam its a coon dog.
I'm sure if the awesome dog is a awesome dog a bashing by a boy on face book aint gonna hurt him any.
I've been bashin lipper, pacman and a few others for 30 yrs or better and it aint hurt them none.

First I have heard awesome is reproducing. One of his pups is winning big in $ kc right now. They will all throw some duds. But when people start talking cull along with caged coon in same sentence that tells me alot. We breed dot to awesome and there was one that was running loose and treed a wild coon at 4 months.

Yeah theres duds in call but to barely hunt the dog and cull it because it wont bark at a caged coon was just the dumbest ive seen lately and i know nothing about awesome or his pups but downing a dogs who will be remembered and your name will most likely never be known I thought was just dumb

just because a stud has lots of titles doesn't mean his puppies are going to be supper dogs with lots of titles. a lot of luck, a great amount of work and skills go in to making titles. most of his puppies should be good dogs. If all of them had good trainers, good handlers, some good luck, and the money to pursue titles, they too could more likely become great dogs. There isn't much difference between the skills of a good dog and a great dog but that little bite of difference makes all the difference in the world.
