I have the degenerative disc disease also. Began with the local GP's I then moved on to a couple back doctors. The responses were 1. Shots, 2. surgery and 3. pills none of which I was in the market for. They all agreed I was bulging in the disks and had hemorrhage in the L4 and L5. It has been so bad at times all I could do is lay in bed with a heat pad and cold packs, even up to 5 days at a time. Today I run 3 - 4 times a week, have some back pain but feel much much better.
Heres what happened: 15 years ago I went to Vanderbilt for Hodgkins disease. I was always satisfied dealing with Vandy they were so very professional that I called my Oncologist and he directed me to one of his buddies. Vandy did the xrays and MRIs on the spot and he called me into his office the same day sat me down and said "heres the deal". You definitely have issues. You can have surgery, do the back shots, take drugs all if you want the easy way out OR you can get healthy, eat right and exercise. Instructed me to get down to my bodies weight (160 in my case) and don't make the back carry excess weight. I did, I stopped all fast junk food, no fried foods breads ect...and eat mostly natural foods. I switched to eating breakfast and very small dinners and just a few health snacks after 6pm.
I cant tell yall how much better I feel, knowing im not 20, 60 lbs over weight and actually enjoy my cardio, back exercising and just a little lifting. Backs about 75% better with less flare ups.
This didn't happen over night though, being a life style change takes time, and we ease into all changes.
Good Luck and happy huntin
