Sending collars to Garmin

I currently have a Astro 320 with 1 DC50 and 4 DC40's. I had heard you could send your DC40 to Garmin with $99 and they send you back a brand new DC50.

Is this true?
How long did it take?
Can I do it with a DC30 also?

Call Garmin and they will get you squared away...

I called them on a Tuesday and got my RMA Number.... Sent the old collar in Wednesday and received my new DC30 on the following Tuesday... Within a week I had my new collar.

Mine went defective around the 1 year period, so Garmin replaced my collar at zero cost except shipping.

Call them and they will work with you.

I read your post again and absorbed what you were saying....... Sounds like it has been a while since you dealt with them. I had very good luck too, in the beginning, with the exchange program.
I called a couple weeks back about sending in a DC40 and by the time I sent mine, payed the fee and the return shipping, I was going to have about $130 in a collar that only had a 90 day warranty as all of these "swap outs" come with.
I do not feel that the trade in program is all that hot anymore but it could just depend on who answers the phone that particular day and to what degree they want to help you.
I highly recommend you send your old collar with signature confirmation.
Probably still better than buying used off this forum and not knowing if you will ever get your collar.

So... can you swap a DC40 and $99 for a "Brand New" DC50?

I've called twice, but 30 minute hold times ain't for me.

I do not know about that but I swapped a bad 220 for a 320 one time. I think it depends on who answers the phone.
I wanted to swap the DC40 for a DC30 a couple of weeks ago and that person said I could'nt that it had to be a DC30 I was sending in and the fee was even higher for a DC30 to DC30 swap than it was a DC40 to DC40 swap.

I just got through and it took about 5 minutes. Make sure to listen to the menu and dial the 913 number. They told me they had an abundance of 50 collars and were doing the swap you described for a few months over the Summer but that swap has been discontinued because they depleted their 50 inventory.
Get someone else on the phone and you may have better luck. This guy also told me they would cover the shipping of a DC40 swap out and that last person 2 weeks ago told me I had to pay the shipping so it seems to be a crap shoot.

I called yesterday and was told that they only exchange like items. No upgrades, and send a check for $99.00.

I had a DC 30 that stopped working and they told me it was 120 bucks to send me a new one.

Here's the problem mine has a long range antenna and it on a dayglow collar. So I spend the 120 and get back the basic DC-30 right?

No take the collar and antenna off. All they need is the black receiver and gps antenna. When you get one back you can reinstall what you desire.

Bruce, I'm guessing 3 in 3 states. I know they have one in Kansas City ( about 30min from me). Figure one on the East and West coast too.

Just asking a question can you still buy a dc-30 collar from garmin, the guys I hunt with have the astro 220 dc-30 collars and we were discussing what our options are if our collars go bad. any info APPRICIATED.

Not that I am aware of, seems like I tried about a year ago. My uncle has two he is taking to the Grand American for $125 each and they are in great shape. Thinking about buying them for myself but I already have two and only one dog.

I think you can do the trade in program for a 30 still, but not just buy one straight out. Maybe that is what you are asking.

Kevin, if I can ever get them on the phone here in the next day or two I'll ask about it. I've got a old non-working DC30 I'm looking to trade off myself.

I actually forgot the number they told me but it was three or four. One is at their location in KS and they have another one in KS. One in WA state I think and then one other one.
