I had the opposite happen at a Walker Days several years ago... all dogs treed together, on a leafless cherry tree that couldn't have been more than 12-18" in diameter, on a thin fence row. We could see all sides of the tree from the fields, on both sides.
There were four guys staring at that tree, all of us wanting to see a coon, and after 7-8 minutes we were ready to give up. As we were about to put it to a vote (and all minus it) the judge, said, "I sure can't believe all those dogs missed it like that" and as he looked up, the coon at the top of the tree looked at us! He was at the top in the twigs, where he should have stood out like a sore thumb, and we were all ready to minus them!
I too have wondered if "bright" lights, is the answer...
