Well, rutting season has started around here! We're having some really good races. Them boar coons are running like deer! Some don't like it, but it'll sure make a hound when they can run that dude for an hour and then get him up!

rutting boars
same here after mid-nt those boars are laying up and dog finds them. not much tracking some will run maybe 20 min or so if its a cold track. not many! YET maybe when the females come in they may run better but even than they will climb quicker. AND than just maybe all this time my dogs were running coon and not deer or fox or coyote! NAA! IT WAS DEER. lol SORRY HAD TO THROW THAT IN.
Ive had some 900-1000 yard tracks but none that took that long. I don't know if the rutting has started here or not but im getting tired of the long walks.

This may sound like a BS story, but a buddy and I hunted two dogs two nights last week and treed over thirty coons. Saw close to 40 total. We never had a track go over about 5-600 yards. We have started seeing some pairs, and I feel like we're right on the brink of the rut in our area.
We've kinda stumbled into a honey hole that hasn't been pressured at all. Coons are mud fat eating possum grapes and hack berries around here. Mild summer, good fall mast, and a moderate winter thus far has been good to out coon population.

We felt like the first night was a fluke, but then we went back and did it again. Make no mistake, the guy I was hunting with has a way better than average dog, and she treed the majority of those coons.

That about sums it up around here lately. I'm not going to very many close easy trees, but I'd say 20 - 25min is about the longest.

Ole female here ran one last week for 50 minutes like she was tied to him round and round and never got over 800 yds from me,one coon decided to split and came within 30 feet of me and a different coon took her for a tour,I like to let those kind live,best way to train a young dog to run to catch...

Had a good race here,swore the dogs were running a deer til we got out in front of them. Watched the coon run across the highway and the dogs caught him on the ground a couple hundred yards away. Then 2 nights later treed 3 within 200 yards all in seperate trees.
We had some more good races last night. 1 race about 45 minutes and a couple 15 to 20 minute races. They was moving. They jumped him twice and made a circle like a deer. Then fell in treed with the meat. We started to build a camp fire and break out the lawn chairs. LOL. Felt like we was listening to a coyote race.
