breeding

I was just looking for some input on breeding related dogs. Is father to daughter to close, what are the advantages and disadvantages? Any input would be appreciated.

I do not consider myself a breeder especially when it comes to dogs I've only raised a few litters. I have inbred plenty of birds with good results. It's a matter of personal opinion. if you search for inbreeding on this site you'll find some info. the leopard hound guys seem to inbreed alot. I personally would by a inbred pup over one that's not, if you inbreed don't plan on them all making it while you're breeding toward good traits if there's any bad ones they show up as well. I do have a pup here that I raised that is inbred. her grand dam on the dams side is a sister to her grand sire on her sires side. If that makes sense. It's like half brother half sister mating in a way, the dam and sire had a parent that was brother and sister. She seems like she gonna be a slow starter it's hard to tell alot of it is my fault trying to get them on coyote. she acts good is gamey interested in hunting but is somewhat timid like her grand dam when it comes to strangers I don't mind it cause strangers won't be able to catch her

Hope this helps some

Breeding Dogs

My uncle bred brother and sister trying to keep our line 40 years ago. All we got were a bunch of dummy's . Never tried it again. 1 cousins are as close as I will breed and rather have third. Could have been a one time thing just never tried it again. Seen it done by others but didn't see outstanding dogs by it. Some others may have good luck not me. My father said advice was worth what it cost.

Line breeding or inbreeding has been done for a long time, and had good results and bad ones. But just remember when you do you'll only have dogs that are just as good as the one before it. You only want to do this if you want to try to lock in traits of the parents and grandparents. You wont improve the dogs ability, just have more consistency through out your breeding program. Just watch what you do and the traits of the pups and make sure they don't have undesirable traits popping out, like meanness because it can. good luck

Line breeding can be ok, sometimes it just makes the papers look better. Lots of dogs now days are bred to tight. Some one out there probly has a top male with the charcteristics you are looking for. You may be better off to go that way. Breed for brains and nose, let the rest take care of its self. Good luck, good hunting
