I owned a Son of Houses Chief. I also Bred to and raised a litter out of Houses Tom Tom when Harold Trusty had him. Houses Clint who was Lippers daddy was out of Tom Tom and was a half brother to my hounds. Mine were pretty ticked up. Clint was pretty. If mine was pretty he would of been put up for stud but the ticks on him were ugly. lol

To tell you the truth I believed in those dogs for the tracking ability I need down here. Today I still look for a dog with tracking ability just no ticks.

That litter produced a variety of hounds just like todays dogs do. One I kept was pretty nice, not trashy and a high tenor bawl on track and chop on tree, easy to call. One brother went to NC and was turned out to be slick treeing idiot. His name was Pedro. Two females made good country coonhounds. Seen several in this line of dogs and as they moved forward and gathered more genes from other dogs and I think they got better. Seen some nice Tom Again dogs, Lawyer dogs, and a few I can't remember the name on right now.

Seen more Son's of Lipper than I care to remember. Had one that would be about out of hearing to the right and the next time you heard him he would be about out of hearing to the left. He covered more ground than any dog I ever saw and would bark here and there while doing it.
One thing about them when you went to a hunt everyone was watching them to see how they done and they usually done something, right or wrong.

HE WAS BEST DOG I'VE EVER HUNTED WITH, HE WAS LAST LIVING SON OF HOUSE'S CLINT JOE TRIED TO BUY HIM SEVERAL TIMES, HE DIED HERE AT 16. I'VE BEN TRYING TO REPLACE HIM FOR 20+ years!!!

Jay all those dogs you mentioned are in these 3 month old pups pedigree I got fairly close doubled some tripled through Missouri candy I am pretty exited

Bruce, The foundation of my dogs was a son of Chief. My friend took him to the vet for me one time and they asked him what kind of bird dog he was because of the ticks. It took me 20 years to get rid of the ticks.

He won the acha world hunt in 1976, so i would bet sometime in the early 80's...i think Harold trusty won tom on card game..might just be a storie,but it was told to me as the truth

When I was a kid I hunted with a good friend of Joe House's quite a bit.

I hunted with dogs out of Clint, Lawyer, Lipper, and some brothers to them.

That's been a long time ago but I do recall that those were some wild, hard going suckers that would forevermore make something hapen.

It seemed like the good ones were really good, and then there were all the rest.

They didn't produce too many mediocre hounds.

the ones I hunted with were either outstanding or nuts.

Got to hunt with Clint several times but the one time that stands out in my mind the most was the 1st. After arriving at Joe's house that afternoon and getting all the introductions and small talk out of the way Joe told me to be back just before dark. It was early spring and just as I was leaving the motel to get to Joe house a bad storm was coming into the area, but in no way was I going to back out so off to Joe's I go. Getting there it was coming down in sheets but the light came on as I pull around to the back of his house and shortly after it slacked up enough that I figured it was time for me get out and see if the hunt was still on. Well Joe in his "Joe" way assured me that unless the sky fell we would go hunting sometime before we closed our eyes. In about 30 min. the storm had past and we headed off to a bean field not far from Joe's house. the water was running in the field and the crawfish were out everywhere as we stood and watched Clint head off into the night. It wasn't long before he opened with a nice mellow bawl and after some turns and dodges he was moving at a good clip. I could hear something off in the distance and about he time that I realized Clint was treed I also realized that a freight train was in between him and us. It seemed like eternity before that train got by and when it did get a ways out Clint was right were he was when he came treed . We walked to the back of the field through a small strip of woods and across the tracks not more than 30 ft. was Clint treed with Mr. Raccoon looking down. Joe said lets go Clint and back to the truck we go, Joe House, House Clint and little on me.

I had a direct daughter of Kaw River Chief and a
granddaughter of Crowding Billy. She treed a lot of coon,
but was as junky as they come.(wouldn't trade a dozen like her for what I have now)

I owned three hounds off of Clint from three different females. All were straight, all were different to some degree but all were good track dogs. All three were bawl mouth tree dogs that were very good about having the coon. All three were first/ second and first type of hounds, and they didn't need anything else to go but didn't care if they did. They were a pleasure to hunt, would like to have another one before I hang up the light.

One of the loudest hounds
I have ever been in the woods with was off Kaw River Chief and Johnson's Kansas Rose. Not sure what Rose was out of, but he was hurt your ears loud.

A hunting buddy of mine had a direct daughter of Houses Clint in the late 80's & early 90's. To this day she is the best walker I have ever hunted with. She had a loud screaming bawl on track and a loud chop on tree. She was a very wide hunter. (To a fault sometimes for me) If you wanted to tree a coon, Nite ch. Red Brush Kate would get it done no matter the conditions.

I also had a Grand daughter to Crowding Billy, at 8 years of age she was still the track drivingest dog, only thing was the track could be a coyote, deer or sometimes a coon,

The first pups i ever bought were from Joe House and Clint, drove from Georgia to west Kentucky as a teenager, was so excited to see the man, when my buddy and i got to Clinton, KY.
we went in the local feed store to ask directions to joe's and all the men in there just laughed and said HE AIN'T HEAR HE IS IN PRISON! I went to his house anyway and out in the barn was my 2 pups from Clint, knocked on the door and a fella handed me my papers. lol
There are lines that are more balanced, But if you don't like normal. Then this is the line that can make you or break you. LOL

I got to have a hound that is beautiful, bawl mouth and proud to have his tree. This bloodline and the Coma line keep me there.

1963 ACHA Dual World Champion Grand Ch. Nite Ch. House's Bawlie

The Hound that introduced the world to Joe House and the House Strain of Treeing Walkers.

The year before Bawlie won the World Championship his brother Spot Lite Sport placed 2nd in the 1962 ACHA World Championship.

When Joe House sold House's Bawlie for the largest amount paid for a Coonhound at the time, one of the reasons he gave for being able to make the decision to sale Bawlie was a young hound. A young hound he saw greatness in. That hound was House's Chief.

I have a full set of american cooner magazines from 1971. It is a great pleasure to go back thru these and look at these hounds of the past. There were not as many phone numbers, most dealing was done via U S mail. Many of the above hounds are talked about.

I got to hunt with several out of Houses Chief but my favorite was a daughter out of Kaw River Chief she was deadly accurate but once you got to the tree she would just sit and look up and wait and watch had a white daughter out of her that was tuff a very well balanced dog sometimes today I wonder what happened to those ole big mouthed tracking accurate tree dogs
