In the coon hunting world there are many different blood lines in the walker breed. Back in the late 80's and 90's the clover line was one of the most popular lines of walkers. You have Lee Logan's line of clover dogs and from there the Whitey line. When you went to a hunt they were there. In my opinion they are some of the most balanced hounds in coonhunting. What happened over the years that people stopped hunting them and now hunting different blood lines?

There are quite a few folks still hunting clover bred dogs. I had a Clover pup back in the mid 80's and I hunted with Clover once at the Virginia State hunt when it was at Hopewell. He was a nice dog that had a first rate handler and both made very few mistakes in the woods.
Clover didn't have a lot of puppies, less than 200. The big thing about him was that back then he was one of the first coon hounds to have an all grand nite champion pedigree. That aint nothing today, in fact it's almost expected of Walkers, but it was sure something in 1986.
Many people call him ugly but personally I like a black headed Walker. The really amazing thing about Logan's Wild Clover to me is the fact that in those days there were plenty of Walker dogs that won more and reproduced more and there have been a whole slew of greats since but Clover is still the blood they talk about and seek and about the only one you ever even hear much about these days of the old {80's anyways} blood.
I personally always thought that Hardwood Dan was one of the greats but you dont even hear his name mentioned these days. There were a lot of good Walkers back in those days but Clover has hung in there when others were forgotten.

Logan is still hunting his strain of dog. At a rate of a litter or two a year that isn't many pups. We don't hunt feeder buckets or corn fields here. Our dogs don't need an easy coon to tree one but I'm sure they can if they have to. now If that feeder bucket has cat food or jerky in it we're doomed. Mine do not pass up an easy meal. They are ugly not stupid. Lol

I had the pleasure of hunting with ole Hardwood Dan in the Altamaha river swamps. Very nice dog, I consider as good as a competition dog that I ever hunted with. Could win a coon treeing contest, was quick and a tree dog. Never hunted with a pup of his that I liked and believe me he had a lot. Almost everyone in that part of the country was hunting ole Dan pups. Most don't reproduce their likeness anyway, if I remember right he was Bozo bred. I believe he was crossed on several Clover females.

Clover himself was out of Bozo if I remember right...I didn't know Dan had a lot of pups. I always just figured he didn't or wasn't bred much, you don't see him very often in any pedigrees these days. He could definitely get the job done and wasn't long doing it.
